Re: $900 Glass-what's the most you've spent?
My biggest price was $500 for a boxed set of Pepsi and Pete glasses. I have spent $200 and $225 for several hard to find glasses, but less than a half dozen glasses over $100. I slept on the couch for a long time, but it was because I snore, not because I bought expensive glasses. It helps that my wife is into collecting glassware and pottery, though not glasses, so she understands spending some moderate amts on a collection. However we display her glassware and pottery, not too much of mine on display in the house, except for a case in the den.
I would think the serious KY Derby collectors would have spent a lot on one glass, or got great deals on the early glasses, or both.
The highest price I SOLD a glass for was an early Derby Glass. Can't remember exactly but was around $400 I think.
From what I know, and I am not the expert on high priced glasses, the prototypes that were sold through CGN auctions many years ago, were setting records as to "cartoon glass" prices, and those records have not been broken. (this does not count KY Derby or other sports or early glassware).
