Re: Newsletter is going electronic, What are your thoughts
This change is going to be , most likely, a work in progress for awhile, and we are looking into the best way to continue to send the newsletter in the mail, for at least a couple issues, but at a cheaper cost. Then we can go forward with the electronic pdf aspect, and hopefully implement some of the good ideas presented, including some way to make it a good deal for those who can save money for the club by getting the CGN with email. We would also like to enhance the web site, with more content that members could access. It is the current plan to send CGN in the mail, but black and white, not color, and the cost of that, as a copied newsletter, stapled together, or a similar type production, is much cheaper, way, way cheaper. But we still have postage costs for that, which take up a lot of cost, but still affordable short term. One thing we cannot do is to "print" CGN like we do from the current printer, on a small print run, in color, to send to mail only members - that is even more costly to do small print runs, or color copies (about 50 cents per page from what I found, versus 5.5 or 6 cents per page for B&W). So people who will get CGN in the mail, and not email, would get it black and white, and probably a copy type product - but they still get the same content and timely auction listing. I do not want to stir up a storm, but there has been tons of emails and postings on this topic, but not counting classified ads (which this time I actually have quite a few, which is GREAT !!! - keep them coming!) I have very few articles, except for club minutes and some other material from one of the club officers, and club treasurers report. I appreciate that stuff, and it is exactly what we want to print, but we also need other articles, photos, stories, etc. I cannot print what I do not have, electronic, mail, or what have you. I think I will get more stuff, but wanted to put in a plug for more articles, info, photos, to add to this and future newsletters. Thanks for the comments and good ideas. Please have patience as we get into this aspect of the Collector Glass News as the club newsletter.
