I think Texans owner Cal McNair saying he's not in a rush to hire a HC and wants to hire a "long term" coach.... is code for... we just paid multi year deals to two head coaches that only last a year each... our scheduled budget can't afford to keep doing this! Which both a long term coach and possible cheaper might mean he's leaning towards younger.

The Texans have currently completed head coaching interviews with Rams assistant HC Thomas Brown Broncos DC Ejiro Evero, Eagles DC Jonathan Gannon, Lions OC Ben Johnson (staying with the Lions), Giants OC Mike Kafka, former Saints HC Sean Payton, 49ers DC DeMeco Ryans and Eagles OC Shane Steichen.

Also sometimes teams saying they're not in a rush are targeting someone who's still playing. Seeing as Ryans is favorite elsewhere... someone from the Eagles?

As far as Sean Payton... he'll cost a 1st round pick... but Jerry Jones doesn't go extremely quiet for nothing... he's absolutely up to something.

Of course, that something might simple be trying to keep his DC from taking more interviews to be a head coach. But Jones has attempted to trade for Peyton before and even came to an agreement once...

But the Saints GM (whom was also forced to be the NBA's New Orleans pelicans GM and trade away the star player that New Orleans loved... he back out of the deal saying he couldn't trade two of New Orleans most beloved sports people and keep his job and the city from hating him. He could do one, not both.
