And actually, one retired player turned media guy said during the offseason, he didn't think people realized what the Packers were losing, as having Adams the Packers could actually dictate the pass coverage, because if you don't play Adams a certain way, the Rodgers/Adams connection will just kill you. Like no man coverage, no one on one zone, that connection took over half of. The coverages away from the defense.
And that killed the Packers early on, they were seeing coverages that they haven't seen in years, like man cover and didn't seem to know what to do out of it. Just because they hadn't had to deal with it... and they were both rusty in it, rusty in figuring out what worked and having issues.
Yeah, we had rookie WRs and Watkins running the wrong routes, plus the drops and figuring out what the guys could do.
But as for the OL... Bakhtiari and Jenkins being back healthy over rode any loss of Turner and Patrick and then some.
Bakhtiari did not take to the end of the year to get back to elite level, it happened before mid-season. Tom did well in place of Nijman there at the end.
And I'm still not 100% if the problem was Jenkins at RT or if the problems was the duel of Newman/Jenkins. As I've pointed out, Jenkins was extremely aggressive and Newman was extremely passive, and ideally you want them at the same level or have the OG slightly more aggressive and that's the opposite of what they had. I wanted to replace Newman with the most aggressive next guy and see how it worked.
So I don't think the OL got any worse... just that they were subpar before but the Rodgers/Adams connection covered it up that and other areas of the offense and that connection was no longer there to cover other stuff up. Plus losing Adams,VS and having to rebuild the WR core.
