Now, they're in an even more impossible situation:
- They won't get what they could have (maybe) gotten in a trade - teams know GB doesn't want him back and it's almost a 'fire sale' situation
- IF they were to "hold out for a high pick" as some here keep saying they should, and it goes south and they end up not making a trade at all, the team's options are either a release (and a $99 mil cap hit this year), or keeping a guy on the roster who you've made clear you DO NOT WANT (gee, what could possibly go wrong with that??)
Rodgers going on the show and saying basically "I plan to play for the Jets - GET IT DONE GB" didn't help matters one bit either...
This whole thing has been one giant cluster, starting with keeping Rodgers while letting Adams go last year. With the way this has all gone down, I'm not sure Murphy deserves to make it to his scheduled mandatory retirement age. I don't have as strong of a "fire Gute" opinion - the more I think about, the more I think Gute was all set to trade him last year and he was overruled, and it was Ball and Murphy who negotiated the killer contract the team is stuck trying to get out of now...
