Remember the Vikings game week one last year? Justin Jefferson making all those plays? Every one of those catches you see on the highlights was where he crossed the middle of the field into the other coverage. Pass rush can beat that, forcing the QB to throw before the WR has the chance to cross that imaginary line the defense uses in coverage now a days.
I am pretty sure that the Packers adherence to adding to the pass rush has something to do with not allowing the QBs time to find those guys who have crossed over the center if the field into the other coverage and possibly getting lost in the process. Refer back to last years game one for examples.
The secondary in week one was not ready for those receivers routes which cross over the center line of the field. Which if you look into it, it is not very common, besides TE's or slot WR to actually cross the field east to west over the center line.
That is why the new defenses came up with the half field coverage that is all the rage in the NFL these days. Every team runs it. Though it gets no publicity. They talking heads are all old guys who refer to things in the way that they are accustomed and are way out of date to what is really happening on the field in terms of strategy
