Though this ignores the fact that teams use co-existence agreements to share items just like the Packers share their "G" logo with Georgia and Gambling universities.
So in reality, that was the owner simply saying if it's already taken, I don't want it anyways, don't even talk with them... He could of bought it or shared it, and he didn't even ask about either.

Coastal Plain League (seemingly baseball) filed the trademark for Redwolves, they started using the name in 1996, got it trademarked by 1999 and let the trademark go by 2006.
As it looks like the Raleigh RedWolves became the Florence Flamingos.
Then in 2008 Arkansas State University picked up the Redwolves trademark. And according to the reports, the Washington team never reached out to them to even attempt
