Doubled up at most positions and then come here and see a thread about Doubling Up so I liked the name for this mock draft.
1.25 CB DeJean
Supposedly the best feet of all the CBs
2.41 S Nubin
Best instincts of all the Safeties, might need to be a SS, but the Packers already signed their FS in FA.
2.58 RB Brooks
Very well might be the best RB in the draft, but I'm his one season of being the #1 guy, he had a season ending injury.
3.88 LT Paul
A LT development project, whom currently relies too much on his 6'8" 330lb large frame and needs to develop better fundamentals. On one hand, he's more raw than you expect from a guy with his experience, on the other, that might mean he has an even larger upside, and importantly he MIGHT have an excuse for not developing more, in that he could dominate in pass protection at his level without improving even more. Mentally, he's not a Mauler and therefore will never be the best in the run game as he catches guys more then delivers blows to them.
3.91 OL Puni
Played LG then LT, probably best at OG in the pros. He MIGHT be able to stay at OT, but probably would need TE help. Most of the IOL don't have the height that Gute looks for in OL, so I expect him to grab OTs and move them to IOL.
Even still, I was thinking of grabbing Boston College's RG. Gute has a history of drafting of drafting IOL from schools that we recently hired a coach from, so that in theory would help Boston College, Georgia and UAB to have an IOL drafted by the Packers.
4.126 CB Jones
I'm not suggesting the results with even be 10% alike, but Jones seems to have a similar skills set to Richard Sherman (whom never was the most athletic). Jones will probably be limited to Cover 3, but considering that's what Hafley ran last in the NFL and he knows Jones that might be what we're running in the new defense.
6.169 Trade Down
Trade down 10 picks, and move next year's 7th up to a 6th.
6.179 S Anthony
Hard hitting Safety that has played split Safety, nickel and dome roles, best in man coverage, struggles a bit more in zone coverage. Lots of ST experience, both in coverage units and as a jammer to stop the gunners. Certainly will to run THROUGH the ball carrier and run them over!
6.202 OT Wallace
Started at RT for 3 years, and has great technique BUT his physical potential is limited meaning he might be limited to OG in the pros. He might not ever be a long term starter, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's able to hang around in the pros for over a decade as a backup.
6.219 Trade Down
I don't love the options and can't seem to get any team to agree to two picks in this years draft, so I move down 15 spots to pick up a 7th next year.
7.234 LB Watson
Based on PFF, I certainly reached here, but the Packers need a physical MLB for depth and Watson fits that. Watson is an old school LB that's physical and pretty good as long as he's going forward, both in run defense and blitzing, but he struggles in coverages, so he's limited to one role.
7.245 LB Gant
Gant was at Ohio State, before, during and after Hafley's coaching there. After Hafley and the Ohio State veteran LBs were gone, Gant lost the competition to start at LB and therefore transfered to Toledo and dominated. But with Gants well rounded skillet, especially in coverage, he might have the better pro career than those that beat him in college.
7.255 ?ST? Cole
Athletic freak, 6'6", 280lbs, runs a 4.67 which is good for guy that's 30lbs lighter... with absolutely elite length and athletic talents for his size.
So why is he potential going in the 7th? Because he's a better athlete than football player. Not overly instinctive or skilled pass rusher.
So I don't really know where to play him... so I'd probably be moving him around, at DE, LB, TE, FB, trying to find a spot that fits him best. But mainly he'd be a STs guy at first.
