- The roster is absolute cheeks and we've seen in recent years just how detrimental it is to draft a 1st round rookie into a situation where he has limited assets to work with. Don't set your young QB up for failure.
- Elliot Wolf has been a GM in the making for 20+ years and he's finally got the job. Often, GMs don't get a chance to draft a QB, have him fail, and keep the job. As soon as you draft that first round QB, the clock starts. Why would Wolf want to start that clock after waiting so long for the job.
- In NFL circles, I'm willing to guess people have more faith in Wolf as a GM than in Mayo as a coach. There's a chance that within 18 months on the job, it's very apparent Mayo isn't the answer. He's a 38 year old HC with only FIVE years of coaching experience. He may not be ready. And even if Mayo turns out to be a HC...
- Robert Kraft stuck by Tom Brady and Bill Belicheck for two decades. Yes, they were the winningest duo in the league, but if there's an owner in the league who's willing to give Wolf and Mayo time to get it right, it's Robert Kraft. There's no need to rush this rebuild.
- The Patriots could sit there at 3 with two phenomenal options. 1. Take on a trade package that lands 2+ 1st round picks, which they can use to reshape the roster. And even if that big trade offer doesn't come they have option 2, which is to draft the best WR prospect since AJ Green/Julio Jones. Both are great options.
If I'm Elliot Wolf, I'm sending out all the smoke signals that I want to take a QB, I'm doing all the research on the QBs, and come draft night I'm staying far far away.
