I still think the McCarthy scheme which Peyton Manning ran while with the Colts still operates on the idea, that their depth is better than the defenses depth and your #3 WR has to be better and that's why McCarthy's system started to fail, because they failed to keep the WR depth.

You don't need a #1 WR... you only need a #1 WR if you don't have depth ...

And really a lot of Super Bowl teams have had a great TE that was one of their top receivers.
