Before I get into my observations, it's worth pointing out this was one week. One player getting more snaps than another could be the result of matchups more so than skill. It's just one week. But lets have a look.
QB Snaps %
Love 65 97
Willis 2 3
- No surprise
RB Snaps % ST
Jacobs 49 73
Em Wilson 16 24
- No surprise
OL % ST
Walker 67 100 7/23%
Jenkins 67 100 7/23%
Tom 67 100 7/23%
Myers 65 97
Rhyan 42 63 7/23%
Morgan 28 42 7/23%
- MLF has a history of rotating offensive linemen which is rare in the NFL. So it's not surprising Sean Rhyan and Jordan Morgan rotated at the RG position. Do I like it? No, but MLF knows a tad more about football than I do.
TE Snaps % ST
Kraft 64 96 26/52%
Musgrave 17 25
Sims 1 1 8/26%
- Here's where I want to caution reading too much into one week. Do I think Kraft outsnapping Musgrave 3 to 1 is significant? Certainly. But I think Musgrave will have weeks where he's a focal point. That said, Musgrave has always looked a bit unnatural at the catch point and it didn't look any better in Brazil
WR Snaps % ST
Doubs 58 87
Reed 48 72 2/6%
Watson 42 63
Wicks 31 46
Melton 8 12 9/29%
- Take the film for Wicks and throw it away. Just a bad day. Doubs getting 10 more snaps than Reed and 16 more snaps than Watson is interesting.
IDL Snaps % ST
Clark 56 74
Slaton 40 53 12/39%
Wyatt 36 47
Brooks 20 26 8/26%
Wooden 2/6%
- My position that Hafley prioritizes the NT position isn't faltering. Slaton outsnapping Wyatt and Brooks still baffles me.
EDGE Snaps % ST
Smith 54 71
Gary 49 64
Enagbare 30 39 17/55%
Van Ness 19 25 11/35%
- Gary is a top 15 EDGE1 in the league, Preston is a top 15 EDGE2, and Gary is a top 15 EDGE3. That said, LVN was a top 15 draft pick and he's barely getting on the field. It's just game one of his second year, but his development hasn't been what you'd hoped for.
LB Snaps % ST
Walker 76 100 6/19%
McDuffie 74 97 9/29%
Er Wilson 15 20 24/77%
Cooper 11 14 7/23%
Hopper 14/45%
- MLF stated he expects Edgerrin Cooper to get more snaps moving forward. Ty'Ron Hopper getting zero snaps is interesting.
DB Snaps % ST
Bullard 76 100 15/48%
McKinney 76 98 13/42%
Alexander 76 100 6/19%
Stokes 67 88
Nixon 52 68 12/39%
Valentine 9 12 16/52%
Ballentine 18/58%
Anderson 18/58%
Williams 16/52%
Olapado 6/19%
- Considering the CB2 was considered a tight competition between Stokes and Valentine, I'm surprised Valentine only got 9.
- I'm a firm believer these are the two best safeties on the roster and it's not even close. That said, with how productive Evan Williams was in the offseason, I'm surprised he didn't even get one snap.
