As for the different requirements, Center is supposed to throw the ball back there, with the laces the right direction.
Long Snappers are supposed to be able to make the ball rotate the perfect amount of times, at the perfect speed, and hit a half dollar coin sized spot, with the laces at the perfect direction. Are all of them able to consistently do that? No...
Just the degree of difficulty and accuracy is much different.
For a basketball reference, it's like saying, Shaq (or some other big man) can shoot, so why can't he play the Steph Curry 3 pointer role?
And some of those big guys are pretty good 3 point shooters too, but not Steph Curry good.
Some Centers can probably do it, but not enough.
And while I like the idea of saving a roster spot and getting a backup Center, like say we have Monk, get them to do it.
But almost all teams seem to agree, that a specialist is the way to go.
Also, another factor is practice time. The Center needs to focus on the offensive practice.
While the Long Snapper needs to be free to work with the kickers.
