I know that is not the reality of the way the league functions, and generally the guys with the gigantic contracts do not have to face competition for their job, it's theirs unless they're injured, and then when they are recovered from the injury they are inserted right back into the starting line up.

I think that is a flaw in the way the teams handle their rosters. I think that they should make every player earn the starting spot every year and that nobody should be just given the job because they are paid more.
