I just went back and watched the video in this post. Yes, Oliver displays some pretty amazing skill as a pass rusher. BUT, I also saw several plays where he was either in the backfield (almost took the handoff at least once), or stringing out a wide running play for a TFL.
Seeing that, I'm almost hoping that they play him at off-ball LB. Let him blitz some. And play him next to Cooper as the primary LBs. It's possible that they could save the salary and let Quay walk after this year (pun intended, but deeply regretted...) - long-term, your LB maybe could be Cooper, Oliver, Hopper, McDuffie, Simmons.
This, of course, assumes that he pans out in the NFL the way his college highlight reel looks. In NO WAY am I suggesting they should plug him in to start opposite Cooper on day 1 this year. But if he turns out to be what that highlight reel shows...
Thoughts?
