Interior DL, OTOH... even if Clark finds some fountain of youth, and even if Wyatt suddenly manages to make it through a season healthy and playing up to his full potential, that's only two guys. Brooks should add something as well. But the reality is, Wyatt hasn't made it through an NFL season healthy yet, and Clark ain't getting any younger. And as Yoop always says, it's not realistic to expect a rookie (especially a bottom of the draft rookie, let alone a UDFA) to come in and make much of an impact in their first year at the interior DL position. They 'might' be OK as long as everyone stays healthy... but that's a tall order for interior DL these days. I'd feel a lot better if they had one more solid veteran presence in that group (or a high draft pick who had more of a chance to be ready to contribute earlier). But alas, 'twas not to be...
And I still say "WHO CARES" if 'nobody played the Eagles better'. What matters is 'GB didn't beat the Eagles'. No 'moral victories' here. They didn't beat them. Therefore, to psico's point, they have to get better than they were last year. And I think they definitely have:
1: The OL has already improved (Myers out, Banks in), and it likely will improve even more with the addition of Jordan Morgan over either Walker or Rhyan. In fact, it's entirely possible that four of the five OL positions are manned by different people than they were last year - we could see Morgan-Banks-Jenkins-Belton-Tom. I don't think that happens - I think whichever of R.Walker and S.Rhyan don't lose out to Morgan will retain their starting spot. But either way, I look for a lot of improvement on the OL.
2. The WR position should be seriously upgraded from last year. Golden is a talent. And Williams should be an upgrade in the 'gadget' type plays, which will also allow Reed to concentrate on playing WR. Wicks also has some serious potential if he can get past the drops. There's potential in that room to end up rivaling the Jennings-Driver-Jones-Nelson grouping. They still have to go out and do it, but the potential is there.
3. I am salivating at the thought of Cooper and Q Walker playing side by side for a full year. That's something that almost never happened last year, and it was downright electric when they did.
4. How much better will the S group be with another year under their belt? For that matter, the young CBs? I admit, I'm not totally sold on the talent level of the CBs, but Nixon and Valentine in particular were starting to play some pretty decent football by the end of the year. A more consistent pass rush should help that group as well.
There really is a lot to be excited about, for sure.
