But...
Reading the article I posted a bit below about how good Rhyan had looked in limited time at C last pre-season, followed by reports out of GB Training Camp that Rhyan was starting at C with the 1's in Jenkins' absence, it made me wonder 'what if'.
Looking at spotrac, I find that he would only cost 4.8 million in 2025 and 2026 dead cap, while saving 12.5 million this year. So there's no 'cap' or 'contract' reason why they have to keep him. Honestly, Jenkins really has very little leverage; the longer he goes without getting into camp, especially if Rhyan looks the part... I think it starts putting a trade or outright release into play.
IF the line really looks like they can get by without him (I know, I know - that's a BIG if), and IF he continues to grouse about contract and hold out/decline to play until it's done... I'm starting to wonder whether it might not be the best move to make. And with his age (29.5 yrs; will turn 30 in Dec) and recent injury history (knee, now apparently back), I think it could be yet another situation of a player holding out, leaving GB, and ending up receiving less than GB offered...
AGAIN: I'm not hoping or advocating for this - just bringing up a possibility. Bottom line: Based on the numbers, I feel like GB is in the catbird seat here, not the player.
Of course, if the line without him absolutely sucks, then the calculus changes quite dramatically...
