Usually I ignore practices until they get the pads on, as a lot of things change post pads.
Ry's HOT TAKES
Quote: "Center Elgton Jenkins is nursing a legitimate back injury"
Hot Take: Jenkins is not getting another contract, Packers haven't lined giving OL 3rd contracts as they have gotten up there in age, and they have traditional (under Thompson and since) avoided giving new contracts to linemen with back injuries like the plague.
----------------------------------------------------
Quote: "receiver Christian Watson "looks great" but will not practice during training camp"
Hot Take: Translation, even if he could pass a physical, we're not going to let him officially pass a physical... we're going to get a free spot by starting him on the PUP list, he's going to miss the first 4 to 6 (whatever it is) games, and we'll see what happens after that.
----------------------------------------------------
Quote: "seventh-round pick John Williams has a potentially significant back injury"
Hot Take #1: If they (the Packers) official said "significant" then they're currently thinking he's done for the season.
Research: Gute did NOT say "significant"
Gute said he expects all the injured players to be healthy soon, with the exception of WR Watson, and MAYBE OL Williams.
Hot Take #2: This means Gute isn't sure if Williams will stay on the PUP the entire preseason or not. Where Watson will be and the rest should not be.
Also maybe the hot take on Jenkins above is over blown, if they're not really concerned with his back injury....
----------------------------------------------------
Quote: "The Packers are holding a legitimate competition at left tackle between Rasheed Walker and Jordan Morgan, but even Gutekunst admitted it will be difficult for Morgan to overcome Walker's experience and reliability advantages during training camp. Morgan will also cross-train at guard, giving him a shot to start at right guard."
Hot Take: Walker is your LT starter for 2025, and they hope Morgan will be able to step up enough where they feel comfortable penciling him in as the LT starter for 2026, letting Walker walk in FA (Or tag and trade).
----------------------------------------------------
Quote: "First-round pick Matthew Golden caught a touchdown pass during his first training camp practice. He beat Carrington Valentine on an in-breaking route for an 8-yard score from Malik Willis."
Hot Take: Valentine still struggles with those quick in breaking routes, and a slant master like Jerry Rice or Greg Jennings would eat him alive.
