LONG post ahead:
Think 'best 5 players on the field'.
Everything that I'm about to post should be prefaced with "I believe that they think"... I'm not trying to speak for Gute, but this is my guess:
1. Elgton Jenkins, Aaron Banks, and Zach Tom are the three best linemen on the team. So that's 3 of 5 spots taken (not considering where to play them...)
2. They believe that Rasheed Walker is a better offensive lineman than Sean Rhyan or Jacob Monk. Therefore, they would rather have Walker on the field than either of those two.
SO, your lineup is now Walker, Banks, Jenkins, Tom, and ???
3. I believe they WANT Jordan Morgan ON THE FIELD this year!! PERIOD!!! Therefore, unless he shows something really bad in camp (i.e, "un-earns it"), then he is getting a starting spot on this line, this year.
SO, that's your fifth OL.
So if your starting five are Tom, Jenkins, Banks, Walker, and Morgan (I purposely scrambled the names there), then it becomes pretty obvious:
Tom is RT. He just got paid eleventy-bajillion dollars to play RT.
Walker is LT. They like him there (more than I do, but fine). And more to the point, they like him there MORE than they like having Rhyan or Monk at one of the inside spots.
So you then have Banks, Jenkins, and Morgan left.
Banks can't play C, so he's out. Plus, they paid him eleventy-bajillion dollars and installed him from day 1 at LG. The end.
Morgan hasn't had any time at C in the pros, and I don't think he had any in college either.
Who's left?
Jenkins, who did (I believe) play some C in college.
Also, I'm starting to suspect that this is Jenkins' last year in GB; next year, if they like what they see in practice/camp, Monk might get that spot. Walker and Rhyan, after this year, are both probably gone - last year of their contract, and they'll get paid more elsewhere than GB will want to offer...
