Favre was a special case, in that his coach in Atlanta (Jerry Glanville) was adamantly against him being drafted, never wanted him on the team, and made that clear to Favre in every way short of saying "I DON'T WANT YOU HERE!!!". I've heard interviews with Favre where he admitted to how poor of an effort he gave in that rookie season, saying basically "The coaches didn't want me, they weren't going to give me a chance, I knew that, so I said "F it" and partied all the time.

I believe (could be wrong) that if the transition to Ron Wolf/Mike Holmgren happened at the end of 1990 instead of 1991 - i.e., the year before Brett's drafting, and Wolf drafts him into the team with Holmgren right out of college, that awful rookie year never happens, and instead of a second year miracle, we'd have had a rookie of the year candidate instead...

It does make you wonder, though - how many really talented players over the years were drafted by GMs over their coaches' objections, received similar treatment, but never had a 'Ron Wolf" see something in them and just faded away out of the league...
