They needed another OL just so they would have 8 healthy OL for the game day roster. Otherwise they would lose a game day roster spot, as they only get that final spot if they have 8 or more OL.
As too many times teams were going with only 7, forcing non-OL to play OL when injuries hit, so they allowed an extra roster spot, only when there was 8 OL.
