Only five NFL coaches have been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame on the first ballot where they were eligible: George Halas (1963), Curly Lambeau (1963), Tom Landry (1990), Chuck Noll (1993), and Don Shula (1997).
So not only is it rare for coaches to get into the HOF, it's extremely extremely rare for them to get in on their first ballet.
And really, only in 1963 and the 1990s has it happened... no other time in NFL history.
So Belichick will get in... just not on the first attempt.
Hell, Jimmy Johnson had to wait 3 decades to get into the Cowboys ring of honor. If Johnson can wait 3 decades, Belichick can wait 3 ballots (or how ever long it takes, he will get in, or should).
