- Rasheed Walker: Based on actually watching the player on the field (PFF numbers can be a valuable tool, but they also frequently don't tell the whole story), I feel like he actually got worse this year, culminating in an absolutely dreadful half of football in the playoff game. He's young enough that he either should be hitting his prime right now, or still ascending... but instead, he absolutely tanked this year.
- Jordan Morgan: Another player who can look really great one moment, and then absolutely dreadful (like unplayable) the next. For a player with his measurables, it just feels like he ought to be a lot better. My feeling has been that the coaching staff constantly shuffling him from position to position is one cause for this; they need to let him get his feet under him at one spot. But again, you're looking for at least a floor of 'decent' play - at his worst, Morgan has been a complete turnstile. I think he's a better athlete than that, and that better coaching is needed to unlock this.
- Royce Newman and Josh Myers. These two players both had their best years in GB as rookies, and proceeded to get steadily worse. How does a quality OL coach allow that to happen? And there are too many examples of this - a guy comes in and looks 'pretty good for a rookie'... but then just never moves beyond that.
I just feel, and have for quite some time, that for the investment in the OL - between high draft picks, FA signings, and high-priced re-signings - the performance of these individual players hasn't been there.
I'll give them credit that until 2025, the results were generally very good. At least the blocking scheme in general has been solid. Until this year, not a lot of obviously blown assignments, and in general the whole has been more than the sum of its parts. But again, from a 'players improving' perspective, I just don't see it. I feel like any improvement (Zach Tom for example) has been more the result of building NFL-level strength and conditioning - from the minute he was drafted, you could see the talent... he just needed to get his body up to NFL standards. But that's strength and conditioning - not the OL coach...
