a) this line having had exactly zero snaps together as a unit prior to the game
plus
b) going against Brian Flores, who is widely regarded as one of (the?) best defensive coordinators in the game as far as blitzing, aggression, and creating confusion for offenses
created a sort of 'perfect storm' setup for what we saw during that game, and that this situation can be reversed (at least somewhat) just by the OL players having time together, and not going against a Brian Flores-coordinated defense every week.
I think that has to be the hope, because Aaron Banks has missed (and continues to miss) more games than he plays, Burton is a rookie (so who knows what you'll get), Belton played so well at G in camp that they moved him to OT, and there isn't much else to hope for as far as improvement from players currently on the roster.
I've even thought: if Belton can't play OG, but can play OT at a somewhat acceptable level, might they consider moving ZBB inside? We know he can play well pretty much everywhere. We also know Jordan Morgan can't do so - he showed last year he's pretty much an OT only as far as being able to have some semblance of decent play.
Otherwise, there are a couple street FAs out there - Zeitler is a name I've heard, along with a couple of others. There's also a possible trade with Cleveland - they have a veteran OG who is currently on the injured list, but should be available very soon; meanwhile, they're currently starting the next big thing at OG so the veteran, even when ready, might be available to trade for. But I'm afraid Gute won't go there, and we're stuck with what we have...
