Wasn't watching Compass brand at that time. Most CA hunters in my area, at that time, were strictly Garrett or Whites guys by this era. But as far as I recall, the meter on the Magnum was only intensity meter ? Or perhaps banging left for iron (or whatever your reject setting had been) and right for accept/conductive ? I don't think it was TID meter. Just a sort of intensity meter.
And I read somewhere than an off-brand which didn't survive had some sort of TID meter out with a TR discriminator even before the advent of motion discrimination . But I forget which make and type that was. In reading about it, I recall that it was said to be a rather poor performer.
It's amazing that TID didn't come out earlier than it did. Even on a TR platform. Because if you think of it: A person could accomplish the same thing by merely dialing up and back on his disc. knob, to see where an item dropped out at. That was very tedious though.
