further cloud the subject . I don't claim to be any sort of expert, and I'm a "newbie" on here, but I've done quite a bit of research on older models & company histories, just out of curiousity.
That same forum thread I was reading about the 1974 Technos model claims that a 1976 "Roach/Metlsensor" was the 2nd TID machine. I
haven't had a chance to look for any info about it yet.
In a 2002 tech paper on TID meters, George Payne, the engineer variously associated with White's, Discovery PNI, Bounty Hunter, and
Teknetics claims that the Tek 8500 & 9000 were the first detectors with a TID. I have no
model dates for them. However, the 1982 manual for the Tek 8000 shows it also had TID. Payne holds a 1981 patent on TID.
The White's 6000 D/I, their 1st TID meter model as best as I can tell, first showed up in a 1983 catalog, wasn't yet in the '82 catalog.
Garrett's Master Hunter 7, in their '84 catalog seems to be their first. It wasn't in their '82 catalog yet.
Compass had several TID models in a July'85 magazine ad.
Bounty Hunter's Big Bud models had TID in a Dec'85 ad. Not sure exactly when they 1st came out but I think maybe '85.
Fisher didn't seem to have started using it until the '90's.
Some of the Garretts & Whites and I believe a few others had meter depth indications prior to TID.
It would help if the mfgr's had dated all of their manuals & catalogs!!
