With a deft touch of brakes, it slows down enough to coast across the gravel, and into a parking space next to the BMW.
The engine’s switched off, as the driver’s door opens slowly; Logan Neilson emerging from within.
Stepping out into the evening sun, he is revealed to be clad in ¾ length shorts, the white Spain ‘Away’ football top, while a pair of Oakley shades covers his eyes.
He looks up at the collection of villas, waving a greeting as the sound of Heinrich von Richtoven’s voice floats across.
(Heinrich): So you finally splashed out and got a decent car then I see!
(Logan): Nah man, this baby’s just a rental!
(Heinrich): I was going to say…
Heinrich makes his way across the gravel to stand beside Logan and the Enzo, clasping hands with him in greeting.
(Heinrich): … This looks a bit out of your pay grade, if you know what I mean…
(Logan): Ha-ha aye and yer only the number one contender tae that pay grade so dinnae be so smug!
Heinrich’s expression hardens, as he glances back up at the villa, and then back at Logan.
(Heinrich): Listen though Logan, what took you so long?
(Logan): I got here as soon as I could, been busy wi Sport Relief work.
(Heinrich): I don’t mean that. I meant getting in touch with Hans. He sent you a message four, five days ago now.
(Logan): Ach shite man, I was in Nairobi shooting an appeal video for the charity work. Ye know, telling folk about the poverty so they donate tae Sport Relief.
(Heinrich): And you couldn’t check your phone in-between takes?
He head tilts closer to Logan.
(Heinrich): Hans hasn’t been taking your choice of opponent in the best of ways Logan.
Logan rolls his eyes in frustration.
(Logan): Look I thought it could ####in’ wait. Am here now. Anyway Hans shouldnae be worried about Senester, from what I here its gonnae be a clean fight which the best man will win! What’s the issue?
An exasperated groan comes from Heinrich as his head dips down, a look of mild disbelief flitting across his face.
(Heinrich): What’s the issue? What’s the issue? Logan, please tell me you’re aware that Hans and Senester have history. History that caused Hans to practically disappear off the face of the earth.
He stabs himself in the chest with the middle finger of his right hand.
(Heinrich): And out of my life for nigh on four years. Please tell me you’re aware of that.
Logan narrows his eyes as if trying to establish the point Heinrich is making.
(Logan): Aye of course I am. That’s why I booked the match, Hans is one of the few guys on the roster who iznae scared of Senester and also has the skills tae take him all the way. And that’s something I’d want tae see.
He shrugs his shoulders and shakes his head.
(Logan): Now what’s changed? Was he expecting another piece of piss match against Lucas or Buff?
Heinrich holds his hands up, palms open in supplication.
(Heinrich): Logan. Hans can get his head around the fact he’s facing Senester. What he can’t though, is why you did it, knowing the back-story between them, as you so claim.
He begins to pace up and down in front of the Enzo, keeping his gaze fixed on Logan as he does so.
(Heinrich): You’ve got to understand Logan, he feels betrayed, and the fact that you’re ambivalent about it all doesn’t help matters.
Logan starts to shake his head as he turns away from Heinrich, stroking his beard, feeling frustrated.
(Logan): I just explained why, call me naive but I booked the match for the entertainment element. I never meant tae betray him or put him in a match I didnae think he could win!
He starts pacing towards Heinrich his shoulders raised in confused protest.
(Logan): I thought Hans was a big enough pro tae put this all aside and treat it like any other match, instead of caving into all of Senesters manipulation shite all over again!
(Heinrich): Normally I’d agree with you on that, but Hans has always had this idea of a final judgement between him and Senester, ever since he left ‘The Horde’, and ever since he returned. He’s been dreading and in some way, longing for this day for so long, worked himself up that, I don’t know, it would mean something. And it doesn’t.
His head tilts backwards, a light sigh breaking his speech.
(Heinrich): This match that’s been a blight on my brother’s life, arrives on the whim of a man whom he counts as a friend, and does it, essentially, for the hell of it…
A look of realization comes across Logan’s face suddenly.
(Logan): Oh….Right…. Aye that makes sense.
Logan falls into an awkward silence, as Heinrich stops pacing, before gesturing up at the villa.
(Heinrich): Sorry to sound so harsh there Logan, I know you meant well, but… I just want you to be aware of what you’re going to be dealing with when we go in there.
Logan nods at this, musing for a second, before patting Heinrich on the shoulder, turning him around to face back up the path towards the villa.
(Logan): Come on then.
The scene fades to black.
