Both are making idle chit chat with the various HWA staff to the side of the stage, as the various people in the crowd prepare for the interview.
A minute passes, and a general silence falls on the crowd as they take their places, and a HWA staff members counts down the last few seconds from the side. Hans and Heinrich turn around in their chairs to face the crowd, Heinrich leaning over to whisper something to his brother, causing a slight smile to flicker across his face, before the cameras roll.
Jumping to his feet, the first reporter aims his question at Hans.
(Reporter 1): Could you explain your pairing of Ronnie McNeil and Logan Neilson, Hans?
(Hans): At first, I'll admit that I was sorely tempted to just leave Logan off the card completely. The man loves a fight afterall, and wouldn't take any real offence regardless of who I placed him against, but would be swinging from the rafters if he was snubbed.
He spreads his hands; palms open in a conciliatory gesture.
(Hans): But I'm not that spiteful. I'll take no small measure of pleasure in seeing him face against McNeil however, reprehensible little man that he is.
(Reporter 2): What do you make of his challenge for you to face him at 'The Other Side' Hans?
(Hans): Well I'd have to remark that his rather charming speech of being metronome like in his planning and precision was shot to pieces long before he even uttered it. Asking me to get a title match booked between me and him, when Talon is the one to book the event? *Sarcastically* Yeah. That's going to happen…
(Heinrich): It's been common knowledge for months now, that the champions choose the events on individual nights
(Hans): … I see it as a cheap dig to get me to do his bidding. Go crawling on my knees to Talon and beg for a match. He could so easily have done it himself when he was busy squeezing the life out of Talon. Perhaps if he'd a quick word in his ear while doing so that he'd stop it if he got a match of his choice for the PPV, he'd have no need to put out this pointless challenge. Now that, that would have been in line with his little promo. I don’t owe McNeil anything. The only reason he’s in contention is because the Circle of Champions put him in the tournament, and then I didn’t go tell him to shove it when he came bleating about the injustice of it all. Man up? Coming from the person who skulks around attacking people behind their backs, that’s a bit rich don’t you think?
(Reporter 2): And what about yourself Heinrich?
(Heinrich): Well… you all heard his justification, if you can call it that, for why attacked me. Sticking my nose in his matches?
He shakes his head.
(Heinrich): The only match I stuck my nose in was when Buff Bridges thought it would be a good idea to ignore the referee and take a chair to my brother when he was down. Now if Ronnie feels that that was one of ‘his’ matches, then that’s his decision. The rest of us know otherwise. In fact…
He looks across at his brother.
(Heinrich): Didn’t he pick me up when Buff floored me?
Hans shrugs his shoulders apologetically.
(Hans): Sorry, I didn’t see that…
(Heinrich): Never mind then…
He turns back to face the crowd of reporters.
(Heinrich): At any rate, I got in his face once he picked up the chair I’d gotten rid off, and got hit for my troubles. What’s that saying? Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me? Suffice to say, he may well be getting a taste of his own medicine soon enough.
The scene fades out momentarily, before fading in on the crowd of reporters, as one of them rises to his feet.
(Reporter 3): Now we're aware of the history that the pair of you have between Anton and Davis, but why wait so long to face off against them again?
(Hans): Well the last few months of my schedule have been rather full, don't you agree?
Polite laughter ripples round the room.
(Heinrich): There have been a few things that have fallen into place, firstly; my brother's in charge this coming Havoc, so it was an easy matter to book it. Secondly, those two are running scared of singles competition, put them in a situation where the other can't help, and their inadequacies are revealed.
(Reporter 3): Your match last week for example?
(Heinrich): Exactly.
(Hans): The chances of either of us being able to face either Anton or Davis one on one until this Tour have been non-existent.
Another of the reporters raises a hand. Hans gestures towards him to ask his question.
(Reporter 4): What about taking a handicap match?
Hans shrugs in acceptance of the observation.
(Hans): Perhaps in a handicap match, but I've no desire to do hand them any advantage that they don't deserve. It could be argued that if my brother and I had announced that we were forming a tag team and going for the titles, we'd no doubt have met them in-ring at some point, but again, I've got my All-Star belt, and Heinrich's the number one contender for the Spotlight title. Why compromise ourselves for those events?
(Reporter 3): There are those who seem willing to do so, AC James and Maniac for example.
(Heinrich): And it's not worked out so far in the case of AC. He'll have to wait his turn as well for another shot at Logan.
To be continued…
