It had been a long night in the hospital after her confrontation with Michael James on Havoc. She had left the hospital with a list of minor injuries, and the definitive need for dental work. When Butch called last night a good ten minutes past on the phone between them before either said a word and when they did speak...little was said. He asked her how she was, how Sean was, and when she would be home. It was brief, but each knew what the other was thinking and nothing more need be said. She had been discharged from the hospital that morning, and after making sure Sean was on the first flight back Dunfermline she had returned to her hotel room where a hot bath with essential oils and aromatics had been drawn for her. She slipped into the tub, pulled her up in a bun, and drew her knees in wrapping her arms around them where she buried her head in tears. How does Michael James continue to persevere? How has he managed to stay ahead of them? She wanted to dig her nails into him and peel his flesh down to his ankles like a banana. Had she made the right decision threatening him, essentially proclaiming that she wanted to get him in the ring? Was it just her rage talking, her pride, her competitive spirit? In her heart she knew she probably couldn’t beat him in the ring, but she also knew that she could give him a decent fight. She may not be able to fully extract the revenge the Parker family deserved, but she knew there was one man who could.
The only problem was that Butch had been home for a nearly a month now after losing the World Title and seeing his spirit broken in this way has been put a strain on things in the family. She waited day after day to awake and hear the treadmill running, the sound of iron plates clinking in the gym, even the blender running mixing up one of his protein concoctions…but none of it ever came. Even after last night at Havoc seeing Sean take up the charge may not be enough. She had to think of something, but what…how could she make the rampant lion roar again? Didn’t men usually require their space, she had to let him come to a decision on his own. The bath water had cooled off, and she finally steps out of the tub after a long soak. She grabs a towel and wraps it around herself. She goes to the mirror and for the first time since leaving the hospital. The bruising was horrible. She was quite the sight actually with a fractured cheekbone, but the missing teeth added something completely uncustomary. The blonde bombshell was injured, damaged, the whole world could see her wounds on the outside, and finally that gave her an idea on how she might heal her husband’s wounds on the inside. The answer had been staring her in the face for weeks now. She had been trying to help Butch, trying to get even with Michael James, trying to make it all work out. All she had to do was stop trying. Now that that problem was solved in her head she needed to get back home. Somehow planning their daughters first birthday seemed to be an even bigger challenge than planning her husband’s resurgence.
4 months ago...The Parker Home, Santa Barbara, CA – 7:16a.m.
Evina hadn’t quite woken up and Wisdom had spent the last few months slowly working on Butch. At some point all of the small things will add up. A whole lot of nothing will become a great big something. She had stopped going out, so staying home without makeup on had been easier. She left her hair in a ponytail for ease, hadn’t had a manicure or pedicure in ages, and while denying herself all the comforts women enjoy was killing her…she knew it was for a greater cause. She stopped her morning workouts, little by little kept the house untidy and laid on the couch often with the TV on. She was horny as hell, but fought the urge to ravage Butch on a daily basis. That probably was worse than anything. Now it was time to bring her stallion across the finish line. She had collected all the tabloids speculating Butch’s career, and the status of HWA in the news months into being off the air. She began to cry when she knew Butch was in earshot, but always stopped when entered the room. He’d let her be most of the time. At this point in their relationship and marriage each knew when the other needed to be left alone. They never kept anything from one another, and when there was something they wanted to talk about, they would do it in their own time. As the weeks piled up it was finally time for her to reveal. She started watching Havoc again. Specifically getting caught watching Michael James get the upper hand on her in her last HWA appearance.
Butch entered the room and it hit him, the massive wave of realization she had waited for. He looked over at the kitchen to dishes in the sink, the large patio doors with dried seas mist on it. Suddenly he realized that the smell of the house was not as it once was. Sage and sandalwood candles fragranced some areas, lavender and vanilla others. He began to walk around the house as if seeing it for the first time. The office had small stacks of unopened mail on Wisdom’s side. Going into their bedroom he recognized that their sex life was now measured in weeks rather than days. Wisdom hadn’t mentioned Michael James in months. Not a word or a curse about getting even. He suddenly remembered previously stroking her hair and it being unusually dry, the same with her skin. Dinners that didn’t meet the quality of their previous meals. Memory after memory flashes in his mind. All the little things had added up and he had come to one conclusion…that his beautiful wife had given up. That her spirit was broken. While he had been sulking in his own emotions, she was on a steady decline of her own.
The day past like any other, but the next morning the day began differently. Butch wasn’t next to her when she awoke. She got out of bed and went into the kitchen where she found Butch. Shirtless, barefoot, and wearing only some MMA style fight shorts. He’s covered in sweat and cutting up some fruit that he drops into a blender. A broad smile comes across her face. A man may be content to wallow in his own misery, but when his misery gets company from those he loves…..the pill is that much harder to swallow. Of course now that this stage was over, it was only a matter of time before he realized that she had this planned from the start. She couldn’t force him, it was a decision he needed to come to on his own…it took her a while to figure it out, but now that she had…she knew all would be well.
The day after Havoc…
(Wisdom): Michael James you have no idea who you are dealing with. I would do anything for my husband. If you knew anything about him, about me, about the Parker family you’d know we get knocked down, but we always get up…stronger than ever. You got a small, minuscule taste at Havoc, but at Road to Ruin…you’re going to get a mouthful.
