Post-Show Special
As the camera comes back into focus, the atmosphere in the arena is more controlled now. The crowd is still buzzing in the Norfolk Scope from the chaotic encounter moments before between Hans von Richtoven, the HWA World Champion Stu-E Price and Sean Parker.
Co-CEO Butch Parker along with a plethora of security have since managed to separate Stu-E and Sean and have since made their way to the back. Sean, however, remains in the ring, leaning on the top of one the ropes, a look of annoyance and frustration on his face. Michelle stands beside him, rubbing his arm affectionately, trying to calm him down and he gives her a small smile to let him know he’s alright, leaning in and giving her a gentle pick on the lips.
Many of the fans in attendance are standing, cheering, and chanting. The lights dim slightly, creating a more intimate mood. The crowd erupts into a chant of “Sean! Sean! Sean!” and Sean shows his appreciation by raising a hand before motioning to the timekeeper for a microphone.
Sean raises the microphone to his lips, letting the noise die down just enough for him to speak.
(Sean): Norfolk… I just want to take a second and thank all of you. Thank you for being here tonight and for being part of this journey. This Road to Ruin? It’s been one hell of a ride, am-I-right?!
The crowd whoops and cheers in acknowledgment which draws another wry smile from Sean as he goes to speak again.
(Sean): And you know what? It's not over yet.
The crowd erupts in more applause as Sean glances briefly toward the entrance ramp, the tension still lingering in the air from his earlier altercation with Stu-E.
(Sean): But what happened here tonight…
Sean pauses, his gaze shifting to Michelle, who nods encouragingly. He looks back at the fans.
(Sean): … That was just a taste of what’s to come. And if you think what you saw tonight was chaos? If you think that was unpredictable? Wait till you see what happens at Road to Ruin!
The fans pop at the mention of the upcoming pay-per-view, their excitement bubbling up again. Sean smiles once more, pacing the ring a little.
(Sean): But before we get there, I gotta say… no matter how wild things get, no matter how personal it becomes, we do this for you. Every single night. Whether we win, whether we lose, whether we’re out here fighting our hearts out or trying to knock the crap out of each other, it’s all because of you.
Michelle leans in, her voice soft but clear enough for Sean to hear.
(Michelle): You hear that? Those cheers, Sean? They believe in you. Just like I do.
Sean mouths the words “thank you” back to her, squeezing her outreached hand before turning back to the fans. There’s a brief pause as Sean lowers the mic, letting the energy from the crowd wash over him. He then raises the mic again.
(Sean): Now, that’s the niceties over and done with. Michelle, sweetheart, you might want to cover your ears because there’s gonna be some colorful language now.
Michelle looks slightly confused as Sean’s smile disappears, a look of seriousness washing across it.
(Sean): Stu-E Price. Tonight things finally bubbled over. After weeks of passive-aggressive comments, not-so-subtle digs and patronizing bullshit, you finally got to me. You’ve been firing warning shots since Ring Master but tonight I fired one off of my own..
Sean paces back and forth around the ring. The cheers from the crowd have died down as they listen to every word Sean speaks.
(Sean): And when you fire live rounds in pro wrestling, you have to be able to take some back. So what do you wanna talk about first, Stu? Hmm? You know what it doesn’t matter because the time for talking is all but over.
See, since Ring Master, things changed for me in HWA. That night that the last eight years of blood, sweat and tears building HWA back up from the ashes had geared towards a moment I’d thought about every night for almost a decade. And what happened? I shat the bed.
Sean holds his hands up in almost apologetic fashion.
(Sean): No bones about it. And after the show, I walked backstage… past the locker room, out the door of the arena and proceeded to wander for miles and miles and miles in the freezing cold, blood, sweat and tears pouring out of me, just to find Michelle. My safe space. Because all I felt like was an abject failure and it took all of the love and belief from this girl here…
Sean points to Michelle who smiles broadly, her cheeks flushing red.
(Sean): ….To pull me back from the brink, to remind me of who I am and why Ring Master wasn’t the be-all-and-end-all of my journey to the HWA World Championship. And so I went back to a persona I built when this company was nothing more than a meme in the world of pro wrestling. To a persona I found in the heart of Japan… the Sky Assassin…. and what was I met with by nigh-on every person on the roster? Derision. Mockery. Suddenly everyone seemingly wanted my head on a silver platter. But you know what? I don’t care… yeah, not winning Ring Master broke my f***ing heart. Having to go to the deepest fathoms of my own soul to get myself back to where I needed to be was a journey I didn’t think I had the strength to make, to find who I really am.
But I did it and I’m still f***ing here. And I know people don’t like me…. I know the veterans like Price, like Maniac and Lunatik don’t like me, I know Wolfy doesn’t care much for me either but I couldn’t give a shit because I’ve grown, I’ve adapted and evolved beyond what any of them think of me. But deep down, I’m still that same guy that went to hell and back with Fallen, who flew forty-five feet through the air from inside a floating steel cage. I’m still an animal, I’m still a monster inside and that’s what you’ve and Hans have coming at Road to Ruin, Price. See, you can call me “boy”, call me Scrappy Doo and patronize me like I’m some stupid school kid but I’m still the guy that, even without the HWA World Championship around my waist, carries this company proudly on my back because with all that said, the name that goes with Sean Parker, is assassin!
Sean steps towards the cameraman now standing in the ring and looks straight into the lens with a menacing stare.
(Sean): And when the time comes, I won’t hesitate to kill! Can you do the same thing, Stu? Because that’s exactly what’s coming at Road to Ruin! See, after tonight, we’re done with professionalism, Price! We’re done with any semblance of respect we may have had for each other once upon a time; you pissed the last remnants of that away when you insulted Michelle!
Sean takes a moment to compose himself as Michelle looks on, almost entranced by Sean’s changed state of mind as he thunders away.
(Sean): You know, Stu-E… there’s a saying, that until the lion learns to write, every story glorifies the hunter…Well, after this is over, and I take the HWA World Championship, I’m going to take Masamune and carve… Every. Single. Word of this tale into you, so everyone knows what happened and I’m going to do it in front of your daughter, in front of everyone you hold dear and when I pull my blade out and wipe your blood on my sleeve and admire the macabre masterpiece I’ve painted… I’m gonna eat your ####ing heart, Stu. See you in North Carolina, prick…
Sean throws the microphone down and Michelle looks a little shocked by the menace and venom of his words. Sean is quick to give her a look to let her know everything is good and she offers a weak smile in response. Meanwhile, the Norfolk crowd roars in approval at Sean’s vitriol as his music hits the PA system, filling the arena with its familiar beat. Together they exit the ring, heading up the ramp. Sean takes one last look over his shoulder at the ring, his eyes narrowing as he thinks about what’s ahead.
As they reach the top of the ramp, Sean makes a belt gesture around his waist and pulls with that final image, the screen fades to black once again.
