on May 1, 2026, 10:37 am, in reply to "The Wedding of Sean Parker and Michelle Leaner (Part 1)"
.........The murmurs from their entrance die down and the officiant steps forward in-between Sean and Michelle.
(Officiant): Who gives this woman to be married to this man?
(Gary Learner): I do!
Gary steps forward in front of Michelle. He lifts the veil on her head, her eyes already glistening with tears as he kisses her on the cheek taking one last look at his little girl, already a woman but now to be loved and protected by another man. He then turns to Sean who has his hand out to shake.
(Gary Learner): Love you son!
Before Sean can say or do anything Gary pulls him into a firm hug, patting him on the back, then faces him and pats him on the cheek with his large hands. The reserved, emotional rock wall of a man has been whittled down by Sean like sand from water. Sean Parker who he now accepts as his own holding the tears in his eyes at bay. Sean Parker who has challenged much of what they thought of the world and has changed him and his family forever. As he steps down, Michelle lifts her head and for the first time and looks at Sean. Her response is immediate. Tears breech the floodgates of her eyes and she holds her hand to her mouth in utter amazement at him. He’s always been handsome, always could dress up nice but seeing him in his native attire, his green eyes upon her like emeralds, it is more than she imagined and he’s simply divine.
(Michelle): You look…
She cannot find the words. Sean just smiles.
(Sean): You too.
He reaches out his hands and cradles her chin in his hand, wiping the tears from her eyes and cheek with his thumb. They turn to the officiate, their hands involuntarily finding the others, both realizing how much they needed one another’s reassuring touch.
(Officiant): Beloved family and friends. We gather here today in the quiet beauty of Cairneyhill Parish Church, in the heart of Cairneyhill, to witness and celebrate a sacred covenant between Sean and Michelle. This small stone church has stood through seasons of storm and sunlight, through generations of promises made beneath its roof. Today, it shelters another promise…one rooted not only in affection, but in faith, devotion, and intention.
He pauses a brief moment looking between Sean and Michelle before continuing.
(Officiant): Marriage is more than a ceremony. It is more than a day adorned with flowers and music. It is a covenant…freely entered, prayerfully considered, and daily renewed. It is the joining of two lives, two histories, two families, and two futures into one shared path. Sean and Michelle have not come here lightly. They come having chosen one another through laughter and long conversations, through challenges that have tested them, and through a shared belief that love is both a gift and a responsibility. They come understanding that marriage asks for patience in moments of frustration, gentleness in moments of hurt, courage in moments of uncertainty, and humility in moments of pride.
He pauses once more, allowing his words to be absorbed.
(Officiant): To Sean, you are called today not only to love Michelle, but to honor her, to lead with kindness, to protect with strength that is steady rather than loud, and to create a home where faith and laughter dwell side by side. May you remember that true strength in marriage is shown in service. To Michelle, You are called today not only to love Sean, but to uplift him, to offer grace when the road is difficult, to speak truth with compassion, and to build beside him a life grounded in trust and devotion. May you remember that partnership flourishes where respect and tenderness reside.
Sean and Michelle share smiling gazes, tears dancing on the edge of both their eyes as their grip tightens.
(Officiant): And to both of you, may your home be a refuge, my your words be thoughtful, may your forgiveness be swift, may your faith be the quiet anchor that steadies you in every season. Those gathered here today…family, friends, witnesses, do not merely observe this union. You form the circle of support around it. Your encouragement, your prayers, your example will help sustain this marriage in the years to come. Sean and Michelle, as you stand before one another now, I invite you to take a breath. Look at the person before you. Recall the road and the steps that brought you here. Remember this moment, the stillness, the expectation, the love that surrounds you. It is now time to declare your vows to one another. Sean, please share your vows.
Sean’s shoulders noticeably rise and fall as inhales and exhales a deep breath looking at Michelle. His mouth suddenly feels dry and he’s stricken with a nervousness he’s never known. For what seems like minutes, but is merely seconds he summons deep from within his Japanese meditation techniques to calm and bring himself focus. After a brief pause his eyes open fixed on Michelle.
(Sean): Michelle… when I first met you, I was captivated by you. You were this shy, little Utah girl looking to make it on your own and stand on your two feet. And I admired that so much about you. And then I got to know you. We trained together, ate together, laughed together. We became friends and then the more I got to know you, the more I knew that I didn’t just admire you… I needed you in my life.
The more I got to know you, the more I realized that quiet strength wasn’t just something I respected, it was something that inspired me. You have this way of loving fiercely and loyally, of standing firm in who you are, even when the world feels uncertain. You don’t always see it, but I do. I see your courage. I see your kindness. I see the way you put others before yourself. And I fell in love with all of it.
Somewhere along the line you stopped being just my friend. You became my person. The one I wanted to tell everything to. The one whose opinion mattered most. The one whose smile could steady me on my worst days. Michelle, you are my calm when I’m restless. My perspective when I lose my way. My greatest teammate in every sense of the word.
Today, I don’t just promise to love you when it’s easy. I promise to love you when it’s hard. I promise to listen when you need to be heard, to stand beside you when you need strength, and to step back when you need space to shine. I promise to protect your heart as fiercely as you’ve protected mine. You came into my life as that shy girl from Utah trying to find her footing. And today, you stand here as the woman who changed my life forever. Michelle, I love you. And I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life proving it.
The officiate nods turning to Michelle.
(Officiant): Michelle, please now share your vows.
Michelle looks to Sean, her hands trembling just slightly in his. Her other hand wipes tears from the corner of her eyes as his words slam into her heart. She takes a steady breath, clears her throat…her voice soft, jagged at first, but then clear.
(Michelle): Sean, from the very beginning, I felt your tenderness and your kindness in welcoming a scared, lonely girl in a big new city who had no idea what she was doing. I felt that I had made a the biggest mistake of my life but I was too ashamed or too proud or too scared to pack up and go back home to the bubble of my Mormon community. You took me under your wing and have cared for me since. I had come to chase a dream, but it turned into a nightmare. In the darkest moments of my life you were there, the angel God had sent me, guiding me back to the light. When I was weak, he gave me strength as you leant me yours.
As our friendship grew, I knew you were an amazing person. When I saw how much you cared for me, the lengths…or should I say “heights” you went to, to protect me…
Michelle chuckles as do the guests remembering Sean’s daring dive from high upon a steel cage.
(Michelle): …..I realized that I didn’t just care for you too, but that I loved you. And I realized that loving you would never be accidental…it would be intentional, chosen and built day by day. Fast forward from all we have been through I once again have stepped away from a life I knew to start again, but when I thought of packing up and going home, I know that place is with you. My shelter, my comfort, and that this time as I look to start anew…I am not alone. Today, standing with you here, I choose you fully and without hesitation to take this journey together. I choose to be your partner, not only in the joyful moments that feel easy and bright, but every day, the exhausting days, and the uncertain days. I choose to stand beside you, not behind you and not ahead of you, but with you as you have me.
She begins to choke on her words. She trembles trying to get the remainder out overwhelmed with emotions.
(Michelle): I promise to honor the faith that brought us together and the faith that will carry us forward. I will strive to make our home a place of peace, prayer, laughter, and welcome. I will guard our marriage with loyalty and tenderness, remembering that love is not just a feeling, but a commitment renewed each day. I promise to speak with kindness, even when emotions run high. I promise to listen when you need to be heard. I promise to forgive quickly and to seek forgiveness humbly.
Sean, I have seen your strength, but more than that, I have seen your heart. I have seen your discipline, your courage, your gentleness with those you love. I promise to support your dreams, to encourage your calling, and to remind you who you are whenever the world feels loud. I promise to celebrate your victories and to sit with you in your defeats. I promise to laugh with you often, and I promise to never stop choosing you. Today, I give you my hand, my loyalty, my respect, and my whole heart. Not just for this life, but with the hope and intention of eternity. I love you, Sean.
She exhales taking a deep breath wiping her tears, and fanning her face feeling relieved to have gotten through her vows. Sniffles and the ruffle of Kleenex and handkerchiefs are heard as attendees wipe at their own tears. Wisdom had gripped Butch’s hand, both full of emotion as Leslie leans her head into Gary’s shoulder crying and dabbing her eyes. The officiant steps forward gently as Sean and Michelle finish speaking, allowing a brief, reverent pause.
(Officiant): Sean and Michelle, the promises you have spoken here today are more than beautiful words. They are sacred commitments, deliberate, and binding. You have declared before God and these witnesses your intention to walk forward as one. Marriage is not sustained by grand gestures alone, but by quiet constancy. It is built in the small mercies, the shared burdens, the patient conversations late at night. It is strengthened when pride gives way to humility, when frustration yields to grace, and when love is practiced as an action, not merely felt as an emotion. You have vowed to choose one another, not just in this sacred space, but in every ordinary day that follows. That choice is the foundation upon which lasting marriages stand. May we now have the rings?
Little David grinning from ear to ear who has anxiously awaited this moment takes the small velvet pillow containing two wedding rings and remembers to walk (not run) up to Matthew standing beside Sean. He receives the rings and nods to David still grinning. Michelle leans down and gives him a kiss on the forehead as she takes her ring, Sean takes his ring and lifts him up into a brief hug. David chuckles and feels like the star of the show as he hurries back to his seat beside Butch who puts his arm around him with a smile, David looking up at him.
(David): I did it!
(Butch): You sure did champ!
The officiant turns toward Matthew, who steps forward and places the rings into the officiant’s hands. The metal catches the soft light flickering off the nearby candles and he holds them up slightly so the congregation can see.
(Officiant): These rings are simple in form, yet profound in meaning. A circle has no beginning and no end. It is unbroken, enduring just as your love is meant to be. They are outward and visible signs of the inward and spiritual covenant you have made here today. Though small in size, they carry great weight. They represent fidelity, sacrifice, devotion, and the daily choosing of one another. Sean, please take Michelle’s ring and place it upon her finger.
Sean takes the ring, his hands have a slight tremble only visible close up.
(Officiant): Repeat after me…Michelle, I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and commitment…
Sean holds Michelle’s hand and stares directly into her eyes.
(Sean): Michelle, I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and commitment.
(Officiant): With this ring, I pledge to you my faithfulness, my strength, and my whole heart…
(Sean): With this ring, I pledge to you my faithfulness, my strength, and my whole heart.
(Officiant): I promise to honor the vows we have spoken today…for time and all eternity.
(Sean): I promise to honor the vows we have spoken today…for time and all eternity!
The officiate nods to him and Sean places the ring on Michelle’s finger.
(Officiant): Michelle, please take Sean’s ring and place it upon his finger.
Her own hands tremble, unlike Sean’s quite noticeably and he simply smiles at her as she places the ring on his finger, her eyes never leaving his.
(Officiant): Repeat after me…Sean, I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and commitment.
(Michelle): Sean, I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and commitment.
(Officiant): With this ring, I pledge to you my loyalty, my tenderness, and my steadfast devotion.
(Michelle): With this ring, I pledge to you my loyalty, my tenderness, and my steadfast devotion.
(Officiant): I promise to honor the vows we have spoken today for time and all eternity.
(Michelle): I promise to honor the vows we have spoken today for time and all eternity.
(Officiant): By the giving and receiving of these rings, you have sealed the promises made in your hearts and spoken with your lips. May these bands remind you every day that you belong to one another in love, in faith, and in covenant. Sean, you have promised to love, honor, and protect Michelle. Michelle, you have promised to love, uplift, and stand beside Sean. These vows, freely given and faithfully received, now bind your lives together.
The officiate turns from Sean and Michelle to the attendees. Family and friends, you have witnessed these promises. I charge you to support this union, to encourage them, to pray for them, to remind them of the love you see here today when they may momentarily forget it themselves.
He turns back to Sean and Michelle.
(Officiant): Sean and Michelle, having pledged your faith and love to one another, and having sealed those promises with your vows, it is my honor to pronounce you husband and wife. What God has joined together, let no one divide. Sean, you may kiss your bride.
The officiate steps aside as the church fills with applause, the ancient walls of Cairneyhill echoing with joy. His hand rises to her gentle, sweet face and pulls her into him. His kiss is soft and warm, swooning as she places her hands on his face returning his kiss. They pull away from one another and for a moment the world goes silent around them.
(Sean): I love you!
(Michelle): I love you!
They turn to their loved ones broad smiles across their faces. They step down from the alter and head down the aisle to cheers unlike any they’ve heard before. The doors to the church swing open and the light of a new beginning brightens the path before. As they step outside they are drizzled with a shower of flower petals and bubbles fly all around them. The church quickly empties behind with everyone eager to greet them as the church bell rings brightly. The videographer and photographer continue to capture every moment.
The applause lingered in the air long after Sean and Michelle crossed the threshold of the church doors. Outside, the cool Scottish morning wrapped around them, soft and bright despite the thin veil of drifting clouds overhead. Flower petals clung to Sean’s kilt and dotted Michelle’s hair like tiny blessings, while bubbles floated lazily upward, catching flashes of light before disappearing into the sky. For a moment, neither of them moved. They simply stood there together at the top of the stone steps of the Cairneyhill Parish Church, hands clasped tightly, eyes searching one another’s faces as if to confirm that everything that had just happened was real. They were finally husband and wife.
The piper steps forward and strikes up a triumphant tune. The notes cut cleanly through the cool air, proud and celebratory. The photographer moves swiftly, circling Sean and Michelle, crouching low for a dramatic angle against the church’s weathered stone. He calls out gentle directions.
(Photographer): Just one more….hold her there…..perfect!
Michelle leans into Sean, her smile luminous and unguarded. Then someone shouts out, “Bouquet!” A ripple of excitement runs through the gathered women….cousins, friends, sisters in faith who gather a few paces behind Michelle. Sarah makes certain to take several wide steps back away from the gathering ladies shaking her head. Laney starts to head that way until Stu-E rests his hand on her shoulder. She turns looking at him and he gives her a “Yeah, right!” look to which she pouts just a little. Laughter breaks out amongst the gathered women who jostle playfully, smoothing dresses and kicking off heels that threaten to betray them on uneven ground.
Michelle, not having missed a moment of the action giggles at Sarah who smiles then turns to Laney. She plucks a single rose from her bouquet and gives it to her. Laney smiles then looks up at Stu-E triumphantly. Michelle positions herself, her gown whispering over the grass. For a brief second she clutches the bouquet to her chest, white roses, thistle, and heather bound in ivory ribbon. It feels symbolic, almost sacred. This bouquet had rested in her hands at the altar. It had trembled with her vows. She closes her eyes and everyone watches her lips move as she says a silent prayer. When she opens her eyes she glances at Sean. He gives her an encouraging grin, amused, and entirely in love.
(Michelle): Ready?
She turns away from the ladies shouting over her shoulder and they eagerly answer back in unison shouts of “Yes!” and “Just throw it!” and “move over Melissa” are all heard. Sean can’t help but laugh, thinking briefly how these ladies of all varying ages suddenly resemble a Battle Royal. Still playing, the piper, as if sensing the moment, holds a sustained note. Michelle closes her eyes briefly, breathes in the cool highland air, and with a joyful sweep of her arm sends the bouquet arcing into the sky. For a heartbeat it seems suspended against the pale clouds then shrieks of laughter erupt, hands reach upward, shoes slip. Someone nearly collides with another as the bouquet descends into a flurry of delighted chaos before landing triumphantly in the arms of a stunned bridesmaid, who stares at it as though she’s just been handed destiny itself. Michelle turns and sees one of her friends from Utah has caught it and smiles gleefully at her.
As more cheers erupted from the friends and family gathered around them, Wisdom pulled Michelle into a careful embrace, mindful of her dress, whispering something that made her laugh through lingering tears. Butch clasped Sean’s shoulder with proud firmness before pulling him into a hug that carried years of unspoken gratitude. Leslie and Gary followed, both emotional, while little David proudly informed anyone within earshot that he had delivered the rings “perfectly,” with Evina rolling her eyes and trying to keep her little brother in check.
Sensei Kiriyama, meanwhile, stood slightly back at first, arms folded, observing with a quiet smile. When Sean finally approached him, the two men bowed instinctively before sharing a brief embrace. All the while the videographer circles them capturing fragments of joy. From Michelle’s laughter to Sean brushing petals from her sleeve and both their families finally blending together in warm conversation. Eventually, Matthew clapped his hands together gently, rallying the group.
(Red Dragon): Alright everyone. If we want them to actually eat, we should probably let them get to the reception.
A ripple of laughter followed as the cars began lining up along the road, engines starting one by one as guests filtered toward their rides. The excitement then shifted; no longer the reverent hush of ceremony, but the lively anticipation of celebration still to come. Sean helped Michelle carefully into their waiting car, gathering the skirt of her dress so it wouldn’t catch. Before closing the door, he paused, leaning in just long enough to steal another quick kiss.
(Michelle): We just did that in front of everyone!
(Sean): Yeah well, Mrs. Parker, I’m making up for lost time.
She shook her head, smiling as he joined her inside. The door shut, muting the outside world to a gentle hum as the car pulled away from the church. Behind them, Cairneyhill grew smaller through the window and only a half mile away, lay the Adamson Hotel in Crossford, already alive with preparation for their wedding brunch. Staff hurried between tables dressed in white linens and soft floral arrangements. Glasses waited to be filled, music waited to begin, and a dance floor stood ready for its first footsteps. By the time the wedding party arrived, the guests were gathering in small circles, laughter echoing through the reception hall.
Sean and Michelle entered together and were greeted by applause, cheers, and the unmistakable warmth of people who had witnessed their journey. Hands found theirs, congratulations overlapped, hugs came one after another until Michelle laughed in delighted exhaustion. Wisdom and Butch were seen speaking animatedly with Michelle’s parents, while Sensei Kiriyama stood near the edge of the room, quietly observing like a proud guardian, occasionally nodding to guests who approached him with curiosity and respect. As late morning settled into mid-afternoon outside, the lights dimmed slightly within the hall, golden and warm. A gentle hush spread as the DJ stepped forward, microphone in hand.
(DJ): Ladies and gentlemen, it gives me great pleasure to welcome to the dance floor, for the very first time, Mr. and Mrs. Parker!
Applause thundered through the room as Sean took Michelle’s hand once more, guiding her toward the dance floor as the opening bars to “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton began to play. For a brief moment, the world narrowed again to just the two of them. Sean placed one hand at her waist, the other holding hers, and Michelle rested her head lightly against his chest as they began to sway together.
A single spotlight blooms at the center of the dance floor, gilding the air in warmth. Sean eyes are alight with that unmistakable mixture of joy and disbelief that this is all real. Michelle takes his hand gracefully, though her fingers tremble with delight as they step into the rhythm as though the melody has been waiting all their lives to find them. For a moment, time forgets to move. Guests lean forward, breath held, as the couple sways in their own world: her dress whispering across the floor, his hand firm at her back, guiding, protecting, cherishing.
Then the music blooms, and so do they. Sean spins Michelle beneath a wash of golden light; her laughter spills like bells, shimmering through the room. The crowd sighs, some with tears, others with radiant smiles. As the final notes fade, Sean draws Michelle close, foreheads touching, hearts perfectly in time. The silence that follows is pure, electric…the kind only true love dares to leave behind. Then applause erupts, thunderous and joyful snapping them both back to reality.
Over the next hours the room filled with more dancing, laughter, food, and of course drink. Plates were cleared and replaced with desserts and coffee, then cleared again as the staff moved like quiet stagehands around the celebration. One by one, the toasts began, simple well-wishes some drawing out new waves of laughter and the occasional, sudden hush as words landed in the heart. Glasses lifted, the clink of crystal rang out, and every “to Sean and Michelle” felt like another stitch binding the two families together. Between speeches, the dance floor never stayed empty for long. The DJ shifted from classics to crowd-pleasers, and guests spilled back and forth between tables and music. Heels abandoned under chairs, ties loosened, kilts swaying as shoulders bumped and hands spun. In the corners and along the bar, people mingled, old friends catching up after years, cousins introducing partners, we see Sarah trading Michelle stories with bridesmaids hanging on to her every word. At times Sean and Michelle were pulled apart by congratulations; at others they found each other again in the center of it all, laughing breathlessly, stealing a moment between songs before someone tapped their shoulder for “just one more photo” or “just one more dance.”
As the afternoon light softened toward early evening, the energy began to change. The music dipped slightly in volume between sets, conversations lingered longer, and the dancing turned from wild bursts into slower, warm sways. Guests started checking watches and gathering coats, hugging the couple one last time before slipping out with quiet promises to text when they got home. The room thinned gradually until the celebration felt smaller, more intimate, like the day itself was exhaling. Outside, cars rolled away in a steady trickle, and inside, Sean and Michelle stood amid the last few friends and family, still glowing, still amazed, watching their wedding reception wind down as the early evening settled in. Gary and Leslie said their goodbyes, they had already planned to see them the next day for a brief tour Sean promised them. Then came Butch with an exhausted and sleeping David hung over his shoulder, Wisdom by his side.
(Butch): Alright you two, get yourselves out of here and leave these folks to their work.
Around the room staff had begin clearing tables and while music still played, the DJ was packing up his equipment, the photographer and videographer having left minutes before.
(Wisdom): You have to be exhausted, go on, we’ll square things away here. We won’t be long behind you.
Wisdom reaches up brushing David’s head nestled on his dad’s shoulders. Sean and Michelle both nod agreeingly.
(Michelle): We can’t thank you all enough.
Sean looks past Butch to Red Dragon now sitting alone at table, nursing the last of a beverage in his hand.
(Sean): I should..
(Butch): No! He told me to remind you of something he told you earlier.
Red Dragon had thus far refused to speak of anything not related to Sean’s wedding. He knew it was the elephant in the room, but it had waited all these months, it would have to wait a little longer. He’d be around for a few days and they would have time to connect and reflect when the time was right. Sean looked at Butch and nodded. Michelle starts to ask a question when Wisdom cuts her off.
(Wisdom): The same goes for you too, and that’s from your gal Sarah and us both. Look, we know a lot has happened over the last days but you let us worry about that. Today has been and remains all about you…that being said, when you get back to your room maybe you won’t be too tired and you…
(Sean): Auntie!
Sean and Michelle had both turned red as Sean looks both shocked and embarrassed.
(Wisdom): I’m just saying.
Wisdom throws her hands up, then moves in to give them both a hug and kiss on the cheek goodbye. Butch still holding David settles for a side hug from them both. Evina joins them finishing off her second slice of wedding cake. Sean and Michelle watch as they walk away to wrap things up. Sean and Michelle stand shoulder to shoulder, hands linked, and take a slow look over everything as if they’re trying to memorize it before it disappears: the soft, warm glow of the candles now burning low; the table centerpieces that somehow look more perfect for having survived the day; the balloons gathered near the ceiling like sleepy clouds; the smudges of frosting on a few plates; the ribbon ends, the confetti that has drifted into corners. The laughter that had filled every inch of the room feels like it’s still hanging in the air, faint and echoing, like a song you can’t quite stop hearing.
Michelle’s chest tightens with a kind of gratitude that almost hurts, so very grateful for all the people who showed up, for the hands that helped, for the way two worlds had braided together without breaking. There’s relief too, warm and heavy with the big event now behind them, the vows spoken, the dancing done, the day that once felt impossibly far away now safely lived. And under it all is something quieter, more startling disbelief that this is real, that she is actually standing here as Sean’s wife. She squeezes his hand as if to anchor herself. Sean’s eyes sweep the room with the same stunned wonder, the fighter in him replaced by a man who looks a little undone by happiness. He leans his forehead lightly to hers for a second, a private exhale in the middle of the mess and magic, and he smiles like he’s trying not to let the moment break him open.
Neither of them wants to be the first to move, like walking out might make the day end for good. But the staff are stacking chairs now, and the last notes of music have long since faded into the scrape of cleanup and the soft murmur of goodnight. Michelle takes one more look then turns back to Sean. He nods, and together they start toward the doors at an unhurried pace, fingers still intertwined, carrying that strange mix of exhaustion and joy that feels holy. At the threshold, they pause, just long enough for one last glance at the room that held their beginning, and then they step out into the early evening, leaving the reception behind them at last.
