It is sad to announce that another great horseshoe pitching legend has passed away. Three time World Champion and NHPA Hall of Famer, Don Titcomb peacefully passed away at 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the age of 88. Don died of complications of a respiratory problem in a hospital near his home in Meridian, Idaho.
Don pitched in his first sanctioned tournament in the summer of 1941 just before entering the U.S. Marine Corps for World War II on December 11, 1941. Don held or holds several outstanding records and is currently ninth on the all-time Mens World Tournament ”Wins” list. In his career, Don won every major award given out by the NHPA, and yet, is best known as the all-time leading promoter of the game he dearly loved. Don’s love and passion for the sport of pitching shoes was his whole life and he never met a person that wasn’t his friend or whom he couldn’t try to introduce horseshoes to. RIP Lefty.
Cards may be sent to the family @ Mary Titcomb, 411 Cranmer, Meridian, ID 83642. Donations may be made to the NHPF in lieu of flowers. His Memorial Service will be on December 15 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Church in Meridian, Idaho. Don will be cremated as per his wishes.
