We knew he would work toward the bottom of the landing ramp, and although he was a tad long, he wasn't toooo long. He rode out of it. That was pretty impressive, considering how hard he landed. He probably egged his front rim a little bit, and might want to check some spokes! It was enough to cut his left hand to the bone, and he kept it together as he two wheel drifted to the right before dropping off to the pavement about 8 feet down, correcting and keeping control.
I'm highly relieved that he made both jumps. I knew the kind of pressure he faced, the unknowns and the rustiness after over a week off, and having to jump something so gnarly. He's certainly a great jumper! It's such a nice gift to all of us to have an awesome motorcycle jump on New Year's Eve! I don't want to go through another New Year's Eve without an Earth-shattering world record!
Hopefully Capes will put something huge together for the 4th of July, or Labor Day! Both of these guys are at the top of the game, and they've continued to set the pace in distance and height. Hopefully Bird will get some paying jumps so he can spread his wings in locations other than that one desert location.
Maddo's fiancee was just precious, and she knew what he had to think about because she's been a champion too. She had some solid advice before he went, and she is good for him. A girl like that is good to have around when you're doing something dangerous, because she knows what you're supposed to be thinking about. I could tell she was pretty nervous and concerned! Maddo's a lucky guy to have someone so special. She's lucky too. What a great show.
Thanks, ESPN! Thanks, Red Bull! You're doing wonderful things!
I have to wonder what Ryan Capes and the folks at Monster Energy are going to come up with now!
