Some landings are too hard to avoid slapping one's face on the tank. It's not all bad to slap one's face on the tank, as long as that face-slapper isn't too hard. Once you're hitting your face so hard that you're getting knocked half out, you have to go to the next level of technique.
The next level is to move your left knee away from the bike and leave room for your face to pass by the gas tank on the left side. Keys to making this technique work: 1. move your knee out of the way or you will knock yourself out when your face lands on your knee; 2. Control where your head goes, and make sure it misses the tank, or you will knock yourself half out, which doesn't really work well in a tight arena, because you need a lot of room to regain semi-consciousness and regain control of the bike and slow down; 3. Keep your head away from those handlebars or the left side will knock you out, and may even cave in your forehead or crush your trachea.
Anyway...the video: Maddo lands somewhat hard
