Yes, people gave me motorcycles, designed one-off gear and made it for me, did my suspension and motor work, gave me cars to drive etc. and they are all just angels from heaven. I thank God they came into my life, all of them.
I don't feel at liberty to discuss the particulars of the deals that were made during my career, but again, I dearly appreciate everything anybody ever did for me.
One more thing. Yes, plenty of times I spent my own nickels. Many, many times I spent every cent I owned and had to eat Top Ramen for a month. When I first moved to Hollywood, I had to eat on $5.00 a week for a year. Yes, that's five dollars a week. I could buy ten of these skinny bean burritos for $2.99, and I'd buy a two liter bottle of A&W root beer for a dollar, maybe I'd buy two of them. I alternated between those bean burritos and Top Ramen. It was tough to put a smile on my face to go out and face the world and try to hustle up some jobs.
It reminds me that if anyone wants to be a stunt man, here is what it means to be one. It means that you spend 90% of your time going around applying for jobs, or doing things that will help you get a job. If you like to spend your days applying for jobs, stunt work might be for you, my friends. Then, when you get a job, you work for one or two days. Then you're unemployed again. Repeat.
Considering my distaste for applying for jobs, selling myself, asking for something (or feeling like I'm begging), it's a wonder that I made a living at all!
