The last 2 weeks have seen some incredible racing at the historic Mottville Speedway!
October 9 we had double points to make up for the rainout the week prior.
What followed was something I do not remember seeing before!
Both points leaders-Travis Carteaux in OLFWD and Eric Mepyans in Hornets had horrible nights so that when the night ended Dinah Jean was just 13 points behind in the OLFWD and JJ Brooks, having an incredible rookie season, just 15 behind in Hornets!
Fast forward to October 16 and Carteaux's bad luck continued even with his back up car!
However, Dinah Jean had problems of her own but still managed to gain 8 points and is now only 5 out with 2 nights to go!
But she may well have engine problems so stay tuned!
In any event these last 2 nights are the final 2 nights for Dianh Jean at the historic MOttville Speedway as she goes to Dwarfs in 2022.
Meanwhile in the Hornets Meypans, even with a bad night due to being hit in the feature, gained another 5 points on Brooks and leads by 20.
Looks like both races are going down to the wire!
But I must say Carteaux has had nothing but horrible bad luck the last several weeks!
Jason Harman and Dave Leonard Jr. waged a great battle for the $500 OLFW feature!
It was basically decided on a restart with 3 laps to go when Harman raced past Leonard for the win.
I was distracted on the restart but was assured it was a clean start!
Once the green flag goes down you can go pedal to metal!
Harman came close to winning on Labor Day but not quite!
Quite the night for Brock Sweeter who won the Hornet $250 feature and raced both classes!
It was his 4th Hornet win of the season!
The large car count meant B features in both classes!
Seldon Landlig took the OLFWD B and newcomer Mlke Hoevenner the Hornet B.
We do not do transfers from the B.
Read a post on DB concering the track condition being "dirty" but I find that very hard to believe because we had so mch rain it had to be very clean!
But, and we have this problem every spring and fa,, after all that rain it turned cold and the coccrete patch gets brittle.
Not a thing w4e can do about it!!
Don Porter was present both weeks and it is always great to discuss racing with Don, who is always quite informed and up to date!
Curtis Gray also present as well!
I felt our staff did a remarkable job both nights!
I want to give special recognition to Kirt Grubb, Kama Jean Grubb, Dan Haab and Tracy Brooks for exceptional work!
As always exceptional work by Jack Hurford!
Racing at the historic Mottville Speedway continues Saturday, October 23 with gates opening at 5PM and racing at 6 PM.
2 nights left!!
The track is available almost anytime for practice by calling Scott Binkley 574-326-8720.
Practice times have been going fast!
October 30 is the Season Champion Trophy Night with trophies to all heat and dash winners and top 3 in each 3 Feature!
