Crape Myrtles and Fig
My fig (its either a Celeste or a Brown Turkey) in recent years has grown to be probably 10 to 12 feet tall. Right now, I have a few shoots emerging from near the bottom. Nothing is happening further up yet.
As far as Crapes are concerned, Natchez, Muskogee, and Sioux are all well over my head. These three are leafing out totally. Dynamite and Seminole are coming back slower but I think most of these two will come back. An old unknown variety that has been on the property for decades is coming back slowly but is sprouting all the way to the top. The poorest performer is Tuscarora. It is sprouting out from the bottom but I don't see much going on farther up. I would estimate this plant to be around 8 feet tall.
I guess there are lessons to be learned from these performance reports for those of you in less hardy zones. Considering the ones I have planted, I would definitely go with Natchez and Muskogee, at least as a starting point. Natchez has the best-looking bark anyway.
