I ordered my O. americanus from Forest Farm a few years ago. It's in a shaded location, but gets winds from north and west and has still held up well. I'll eventually move it when I decide on a more permanent spot. I think it might look a bit better tightened up with some pruning eventually.
It seems to be a good zone 7.
My Daphniphyllum macropodum has been doing really well in part shade. It's about 6 feet high now. I'd rate it a zone 7 too. (possibly zone 6b with shelter) Little damage after last winter. No berries on mine. But the ones at the National Arboretum get berries and little seedlings are coming up in the beds.
I wouldn't mind putting in a few more. Would like to try one in full sun sometime.
