No, it really did happen at Ocean City Airport, probably just a couple miles from the oceanfront. There were temps as low as -10F in the central Delmarva and -8F in the central Pine Barrens. Tom Tasselmyer pointed out those temps occuring on the _11 pm_ Baltimore newscast. I was in complete shock! If winds had not shifted that night, they could have gotten even colder. If you have a flat, heavy snow covered landscape and no winds to speak of, the cold air can pool and the solar ground heat was reflected, not stored, by the snow. == very cold
Areas right on the water, of either the bay or ocean, are warmer as long as water isn't fully frozen. Because it radiates heat. (and even the process of freezing gives off heat)
