Glad the O. ellisiana made it. The ones I had outdoors at my old house were reduced to rubble last year. I am too cold here some winters to keep those outdoors unprotected. I manged 2 or 3 years with them in ground and the past 2 winters were too much.
I have Gymnocalycium bruchii in my bed and it was not protected at all, so far so good. You can likely move that to a more open location.
The magnolia will rebound. The ones at my old house that looked OK a few weeks ago have now lost almost half of their leaves. I don't doubt that they wil rebound and EB is just as hardy.
