Located in Hartford, CT was the home of the CT Champion, along with some other old trees planted on the property. The link describes more with a photo of the tree as it once stood.
I didn't realize the October Blizzard extended up that far, as it was a devastating event here too that brought down more trees and limbs than I've ever seen in my life, inc. Hurricanes, Tropical storms, Nor'Easters...etc. Up there like here, there were still a lot of leaves on the trees the end of Oct., which led to thousands of trees falling. And almost exactly a year later Sandy came thru to do further damage. If the Oct. Blizzard hadn't hit, Sandy would have done even more damage...though the Blizzard was more a heavy weight issue, Sandy a strong wind issue, along with the rains. There is a video inc. showing the aftermath when the Oct. Blizzard hit CT.
But sad to see this Paper Birch gone, along with some other Champion Trees. If anyone has any more info about it, had seen it or has pics please post.
Interestingly the National Champion Paper Birch is a town with the same name in Maine - Hartford, ME. http://ctmq.org/paper-birch-hartford/
