Myrica (morella) cerifera and relatives

I'm wondering what is the northernmost population of this evergreen shrub. Internet sources say its somewhere in New Jersey. I'm curious about it because it's evergreen, lives in swamps, and deer don't like it.
I've never seen one so I don't know if it's "pretty" or if it's used in landscapes much. Here in Connecticut, we have Myrica pennsylvanica, but that shrub is pretty much deciduous here.
Anyone seen this shrub up north? how does it perform? There is also M. heterophylla but I'm not sure if that one is a hybrid. Regardless, I'd love to see them in natural habitat, they should be easy to find now, if they are truly evergreen..
