Yeah, I imagine that the narrow leaf Yucca flaccida forms must be adapted to more rocky or sandy soil types that receive more sun and heat. Smaller leaf area in plants seem to have less water loss from the leaves, but they probably need more sunlight compared to wide types to thrive.
