A house about 2 miles down the road from me has had enormous gloriosas in their yard and I've admired them for the last almost 9 years. The house recently sold about 3 or 4 months ago and I've been wondering if the new owners would keep the yuccas. The other day I noticed what I thought were a bunch of yucca leaves near the road in the front of their house. Yesterday I decided to slow down as I drove by and saw a big pile of the yuccas. As I got out of my truck the homeowner was walking down his driveway asking me if I needed help. I asked him if he was throwing the yuccas away and he said yes, and take whatever I wanted. He also said he had more in the back that he hadn't taken out yet. I said I'll take a few from the pile, but thanks anyway. I mentioned that I like to grow yuccas and his wife leaned over from the fence from the backyard saying take them all, I hate'em! So I loaded up 3 nice 2 headed 5-6 footers. Gonna trim them up tomorrow. They will be slow to rebound and root as they were all sawed off at the soil line, but by the end of August they'll be rooted in and looking good. |
