I would like to try that one Don, I'll contact you when this brutal winter is over. I have a varigated aloifolia that took a hit its first winter. It sent up 3 pups that have gone through a few winters now. It will interesting to see how they do this year.
And yes, I believe I am at the end of aloifolia's reliability. They do fine in the South Jersey shore towns, but those towns are solid 7b zones. I am just inside 7a and am surprised I can get aloifolia to stay alive. In our former house just 14 miles north of where we live now, I struggled with them.
