What I'm seeing at some places is the doctor entering information on the computer himself. They do not do the billing themselves, that is picked up from the information they input by staff but the time in inputting is still a loss of their time. Where I do see a tremendous amount of paperwork is the confirmations from Medicare and the insurance company. Two lines of pertinent information and three pages of paper to list them and explanations. The idea of providing coverage for everyone is not a bad idea in itself but provisions for how it would be carried out and the escalating costs to middle class people and the diminishing services for everyone were not. Those in the lower brackets are helped because they get subsidies, but the costs for those whose income is not below level do not get the subsidies but whose income is not high enough to afford the insurance cost are screwed. High income people do not have the problem. The average guy with a family making 50-70K, cannot afford it.
