Re: The Cruise - A Critique.
I have to say that my two girls were pretty well behaved in public, except my younger one. Not a pest, but she was a wanderer. Then again, there were not too many places we went where they would be disturbing to others. There were a lot of house parties or get-togethers as our main source of adult entertainment back then. The girls were in the habit of going to bed early so we'd take them with us in their pajamas. Put them in whatever bed the host allocated and admonish them to go to sleep. I can't claim they went immediately to sleep but they didn't make a peep. I don't recall a single time that I had to go in to them..other than to check. As for the wanderer, she thought it was great fun to have me looking for her and wouldn't answer when called. Many an adrenaline rush until I found her. One weekend just before Easter when she was about 3 or so, I went shopping with a friend and her children on Steinway St. in Astoria, altogether four kids in tow. I went into a store while the kids and my friend were outside and when I came out, she was gone and the streets were packed with people. My friend thought she had gone inside with me. Screaming her name, we searched the half the length of Steinway street, nada. All of a sudden, we see her sitting above the crowd on a policeman's shoulder. When we calmed down, we decided to try our luck on 82nd St. in Jackson Heights the same afternoon. She was supposed to be holding her sister's hand..but she wandered off again although not as dramatically. From then on, if she wasn't in her stroller, she was on dog like leash when we shopped.
