The scene opens out onto the hallways leading to the HWA recording suite where Hans ‘The Baron’ von Richtoven has just come into view of the camera. (Tech): Weren’t you in earlier Hans? (Hans): Jah, but this one likes to talk back. (Tech): Well, she’s free the now, go for it. (Hans): Danke. He walks into the booth, setting himself up with practiced efficiency, hitting the record button before long and waiting the count down from 5 to begin, getting himself positioned correctly. (Hans): Herr Chaos, I have to say, whether I am or aren’t trying to actually play mind games with you, you act as if I have. I’m in your head enough to make you think that, clearly, so… A shrug of the shoulders, a knowing look in the eyes. (Hans): … where there’s smoke, there’s fire, jah. Pursing his lips for a moment, he considers something briefly. (Hans): And on that point, again, Herr Chaos, you’re the one holding the smoking gun, or the recording of you beating Jeremy’s dad with the crowbar. Or the on-air vehicular homicide you tried to pull in Chicago. Or the whole mafia links you have and the carnage you’ve brought into people’s lives as a result of that. You don’t get to act holier than thou and try to rebuff being lumped in with someone like Fallen. You don’t get to cry foul and say ‘but that man is worse’ when both of you are so far removed from the rest of us that it’s like night and day. A conciliatory look flits over his face. (Hans): I understand, from where you are, that is a hard concept to grasp. To begin to realise the disdain and anger that people feel for you now that you’ve had a chance to taste it for yourself. That must have come as quite the shock to you Herr Chaos. One of your personalities may even have begun to question itself. ‘Am I, the bad guy?’ Leaning in closer to the camera, Hans’ voice is low and measured. (Hans): Jah, you are Herr Chaos. You are a monster. There are many different ones out there, some that will be taken down easily and others that are more insidious. For all that I cannot abide the person you are, the in-ring competitor I must respect. You’re a two time World champion for good reason. I’m not forgetting that. As for my false confidence? Herr Chaos, I’m the Baron, what makes you think my confidence is misplaced? AC James, David Hollis, Buff Bridges and more besides have been pinned by me. Jah, this would be the first time I’ve come up against you and the unique challenges you present. But that is just as true for you Herr Chaos. You’ve never faced someone like me. As I said to you a few weeks ago, you’re swimming in deeper water, you’re swimming with predators now. There’s always a bigger one, as the saying goes Herr Chaos, you’ll find that out explicitly at Havoc. Once more, he smiles at the camera. (Hans): Train well Herr Chaos, auf wiedersehen. Hitting the record button once more to stop the recording, Hans once more steps from the room as the scene fades to black.
Coming the other way is one of the media techs, glancing up from a clipboard, he throws a thumb back the way towards the room.
The recording starts…
