Nurse: (calling out) Alexis Rose?
Alexis looks up, her name pulling her out of her thoughts. She rises, her shoulder twinging with every movement, and follows the nurse to the examination room.
Nurse: The doctor will be with you shortly. Please have a seat.
Alexis sits on the examination table, her eyes wandering around the room as her mind races back to the HWA PPV Art of War. She remembers the electrifying energy of the crowd, the adrenaline-fueled chaos of the tag team match, and the moment her shoulder gave way. The door opens, and a doctor enters, a warm smile on his face.
Dr. Martin: Alexis, good to see you again. What seems to be the issue today?
Alexis: (grimacing) Hey, doc. Well, during one of my most recent matches, I dislocated my shoulder, but I managed to pop it back in. Since then, though, it's been giving me some persistent pain. Figured it was about time I got it checked out.
Dr. Martin: I see. It's always best to get these things looked at sooner rather than later. Let's have a look, shall we?
Alexis carefully removes her jacket and winces as she does so. Dr. Martin examines her shoulder, palpating the area gently while Alexis tenses up.
Dr. Martin: Based on what I'm feeling here, it's likely that the initial dislocation caused some damage to the surrounding tissues. Your 'pop it back in' approach might have saved the day, but it's possible that there's still some lingering effects.
Alexis: Yeah, I figured as much. I've been trying to tough it out, you know how it is.
Dr. Martin: (smiling) Oh, I know exactly how it is. But remember, even the toughest competitors need proper care to ensure they can keep doing what they love. Let's get an X-ray done just to make sure there's no underlying issue we're missing.
Alexis nods, grateful for Dr. Martin's understanding and expertise. Around half an hour later, Alexis has had her shoulder x-rayed and is sitting back on the examination table. The doctor holds up the x-ray films against the screen.
Dr. Martin: The X-ray shows some minor inflammation in the joint and a bit of strain on the ligaments. It's nothing too serious, but it explains the pain you've been experiencing. I recommend some rest, ice, and gentle exercises to gradually strengthen the shoulder. If the pain persists, we might consider some physical therapy.
As Alexis Rose absorbs the information about her shoulder's condition and the proposed rehabilitation plan, her mind races ahead to the future about the upcoming trios
Alexis: Dr. Martin, I appreciate everything you've explained to me, but with this match I have coming up… Is there any possibility of getting a cortisone injection to help with the pain? I really need to be as pain-free as possible.
Dr. Martin leans back in his chair, his fingers steepled thoughtfully.
Dr Martin: Alexis, I understand the importance of your match, and I want to help you manage your pain effectively. Cortisone injections can provide short-term relief by reducing inflammation and alleviating pain. However, it's important to consider a few factors.
Alexis nods attentively, eager to understand the full picture.
Dr Martin: First, while cortisone injections can provide relief, they're not a permanent solution. They won't address the underlying issue, which is the minor tear in the ligament. In fact, relying solely on cortisone injections could potentially mask the pain and lead to further injury if you push your shoulder too hard.
Alexis absorbed this information, realizing that a quick fix might not be the best course of action.
Dr Martin: Secondly, cortisone injections can have side effects, especially when used frequently. They can weaken the surrounding tissues over time, and there's a risk of developing complications like infections or changes in skin pigmentation.
Alexis nodded again, understanding that the potential risks needed to be weighed against the benefits.
Dr Martin: However, if the pain is truly inhibiting your ability to train effectively and perform at your best, we can consider a cortisone injection as part of a comprehensive approach. It should be accompanied by proper rest, guided physical therapy, and monitoring by a medical professional.
Alexis's determination flickers in her eyes as she considers her options.
Alexis: So, it's not out of the question?
Dr Martin: No, it's not out of the question. But it's important to approach it with a well-rounded strategy. I would recommend discussing the possibility with your physical therapist and working together to make an informed decision based on your specific needs.
Alexis nods, feeling a renewed sense of control over her situation. With Dr. Martin’s explanations and guidance echoing in her mind, Alexis felt a mixture of resolve and urgency.
Alexis: Doc, I appreciate your advice, but I think I’ll take the cortisone.
Dr. Martin nods, recognizing Alexis's determination.
Dr. Martin: I understand, Alexis. Given the circumstances, I'm willing to administer the injection. However, I want to emphasize again that this should be part of a comprehensive plan that includes rest and working closely with your physical therapist.
Alexis's eyes sparkle with gratitude.
Alexis: I hear you, Doc. I promise I'll follow the plan to the letter.
Dr. Martin: Great, let's get started, then.
He moves to the nearby medical cabinet, retrieving the necessary supplies for the injection. Alexis shifts on the examination table, her heart racing with a mix of anticipation and a touch of nervousness. Dr. Martin returns to her side, a vial of cortisone and a syringe in hand. He swabs an area on her shoulder with an antiseptic wipe, his movements precise and practiced.
Dr. Martin: This might cause a slight pinch, Alexis.
Alexis nods, bracing herself. With gentle precision, Dr. Martin inserts the needle into her shoulder, the sensation indeed resembling a pinch, but it's fleeting. Alexis clenches her jaw, her fingers gripping the edge of the examination table, as she focuses on her breathing. The doctor's voice serves as a calming anchor.
Dr. Martin: You're doing great, Alexis, almost there.
As quickly as it had begun, the injection is over. Dr. Martin removes the needle and disposes of it safely. Alexis exhales a slow breath, the tension in her body easing.
Alexis: Thank you, Doc, I appreciate your help.
Dr. Martin disposes of the medical waste and turns his attention back to her, his smile warm.
Dr. Martin: You're welcome, Alexis. Remember that healing takes time. Focus on your rehabilitation, and don't hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns.
Alexis nods acknowledgingly as she leaves the examination room.
Several hours later…
Alexis is at the HWA Academy, in the media room in front of the camera, ready to record a response to Lilianna and Briar Rose. Despite feeling a little bit of pain from the injection of the cortisone, the pain in her shoulder is already beginning to subside as she gives her shoulder a couple of small rotations and is relieved to feel no immediate discomfort. She refocuses on the camera in front of her as the light above it turns red.
Alexis: You know, ladies, I seriously thought after the PPV, there might have been some semblance of respect between us. I mean, between the four of us, we managed to put on not only one of the best women’s matches of all time but one of the best tag team matches of all time but still… Neither of you can find an ounce of humility and modesty in yourselves… you know, I toiled personally as to whether or not I underestimated you both…maybe I did, maybe I didn’t and yeah, it pisses me off Sarah and I lost at Art of War, it pisses me off you ladies managed to dislocate my shoulder but it’s going to take a lot more than that to keep me down, to keep Sarah down. And if you think challenging Sarah, Michelle and I to an extreme rules match for Havoc is going to make us squeamish or quiver with fear, you’ve got another thing coming.
See, you can hide behind your fragile little egos all you want, thinking you kicked our asses, thinking you dominated us from start to finish, it doesn’t matter. The match is out there for the world to see. You won because, for once, I wasn’t clinical enough and I promise you, Briar, I won’t make that mistake again. My shoulder feels great, my body feels great, I’m chomping at the bit to get to Salt Lake. See, by challenging us to this kind of match, bringing all these weapons into the mxi, you just made the biggest damn mistake of your short HWA careers. You think because Michelle is meak, that she’s not got the fortitude to stand up when the time comes? Hell, she kicked your precious pervert, Fallen in the f*cking face and made him look like the jackass he is on national TV! As for thinking of an opponent on the off-chance you gals win this match, I’ll save you some time, no matter the outcome, you and me, Briar, let’s settle the score in a submission match? See I respect the hell out of your in-ring abilities but I’ve not forgotten about all that abhorrent shit you said about me, about my sexuality, about me as a person and the fact your infatuated with a man who was a whisker away from raping a young woman. Any person, let alone another woman that can not only justify that but excuse it, doesn’t deserve anything less than the most brutal beatdown imaginable. Whether it’s slamming your face through a pane of glass, raking barbed wire across your forehead or driving your head into a sea of thumbtacks, I’m going to hurt you, Briar, more than you can possibly imagine and that’s not a threat.. that’s a promise!
And then after you’ve had a chance to heal your fragile little ego as well as your wounds, I’m going to make you submit…I’m not going to let you pass out like you did with me…no. I’m going to hold on, twist your limbs, contort them, bend them, then I’m gonna ease up to the point you think I’m showing you mercy. Then I’m going to make you wish you could pass out until you’re forced to slap the mat three times, begging the referee to make me let go. And when I’m ready to…maybe I’ll let go. Maybe…See you bitches in Salt Lake.
Alexis smirks into the camera as the scene fades to black.
