Thought this would be of interest to some of you. You might remember that we have posted several old photos and have enjoyed many comments about the early baseball teams in Forest.

The FHS office has order forms on the counter! A staff member said that they have a FHS baseball jersey J. C. Delcolmy from late 1940s.

Yep Dana, I gave that Jersey to the school when the home dugout was named in his honor a couple years ago! The jersey was from the old Highway 80 semi-pro league that shared that field with the school when the field was built. I have some GREAT memories and stories about baseball in Forest back then from Dad and others, it was also my Field of Dreams from growing up and playing there. Coach Bramlett, Gary Risher, Bubby Johnston Bernard McCraney and others could all tell many stories related to that field.

The R on hat means Roby Egg team. Doug said Roby Egg went from Rooster League into Little League. This may be Little League photo. Bubby said he has newspaper articles about the beginning of Rooster League in 1961. Just repeating what I was told...

Dana you are correct on team name---I'll look as see if I can tell you the correct year later-- I thinking 1962 or 1963.

Jimmy, this was your last year in Rooster League, the next year you we're in Little League with me on the Forest Redi-Mix team. Think that picture was in 1959.

Now, we are taking past last week - I am not Mr. Henry. I started playing Little League with Coach Lovette Weem, when I was 8, Butch Chambers, Lovette Hays Weems, Gene D. was on the team, then I go blank--- I had a old Lee-Gray uniform but I think my first year was Redi-Mix . I never played Rooster league-- that came along years later. I had to play with you big boys who were taller than pine trees. Boy, was I scared. First year I got to play maybe three times and did get on the starting line up when I was 9. Right Field- the hot spot. I may have had 5 ball hit that way all season. Jimmy Goodwin came alone after Coach Weems left. Bob Cowsert and I were the oldest on this team picture, so when did Bob and Greg move to Forest it was after 59, maybe 61. I am still on year of 62..

Anyone willing to provide the missing names and the year the previous photo was made?

I'm still having problems finding an easy method to post photos on FHS Reminiscing but every time I think I understand, something else seems to go wrong for me.

Better yet, could someone provide me with just one photo that includes all team members but without any names already on the photo.

John B...since PhotoBucket changed their pricing policy of hosting photos for third party sharing on sites like this ...I have yet to find an easy, dependable, affordable method to post our photos here. I now use several different photo sites for posting photos, and I don’t really trust any of them. So you are not the only one having trouble.

I’ll see if I can get an unmarked photo of this team to you. The copy sent to me was already marked.

Presently, FHS Rem uses TinyPic hosting (that is, to say....NOT Imgbb.com or any other hosting company) as the ‘default’/’recommended’ hosting to be used on FHS Rem when pictures are posted on this Broadhost.Com site. (I can explain why I know that, if anyone is interested)

To some extent, FHS Rem has to follow Broadhost.Com rules, however, (as you already know) a lot of decisions are at your discretion to make.

When FHS Rem moved from PhotoBucket, the then ‘recommended’ hosting, TO,,,,,,, TinyPic, the now ‘recommended’ hosting, l am not sure if you (or Broadhost.Com) made the decision to ‘recommend’ TinyPic as the ‘default’ hosting for FHS Rem instead of Imgbb. Com. But, presently both (TinyPic) AND Imgbb.Com are being used by FHS Rem, apparently without any major adverse issues (other than being harder to explain usage details) that I can see.

I am not the one to decide (you are) which is the ‘default’/’recommended’ hosting site, however I do know it is a whole lot easier to explain/give detailed directions on ‘how to’ post pictures on FHS Rem (THAT is the point that we are, right now!) by recommending only the name of the ‘default’ hosting, at that time. Of course, the detailed directions (and host) of how to use can (and should be) changed if it is not working properly.

‘Trust’ is certainly a factor when choosing a host for your FHS Rem. I doubt that any of them (TinyPic, Imgbb, FaceBook) can be trusted. I have already seen evidence (details at a request) that some of the hosting companies are selling Forest, Scott County, Mississippi, photos. I guess the hosting company is trying to make a little $$$$ while saying they host the pics for (so called) free.

Give it some thoughts (or not); let me know a direction you are thinking and I can submit some detailed "How to" instruction that you can try to see if it works. Nothing is written in stone -- if it's not working, it can be changed.

I look forward to that Baseball All-team-members on-one-photo, Unmarked on the actual photo...…….However each player/coach needs to be ID'ed by name on a separate description but not on the photo (I will 'caption their name on the photo')

John Billy...it’s simple. These things that you think I control are way above my pay grade.

Unless you have more recent information than I do, the only control that admin has over the image option on our page is to turn it “off” or “on.” I have no choice at all in which image hosting site, such as Tiny Pic, is used. Use it if you like. If not, you always have the option to search for another photo hosting site which offers third party photo sharing. That’s what I did. Right now I’m liking ImgBB. But..I’m skeptical about it since they sometimes sneak additional coding in which attaches other material to my photo post. Once I identify and remove the suspicious code, the photo posts just fine. THAT’s the reason I have not suggested ImgBB publicly. It’s simply a matter of caution on my part. I’m not sure many people will want to look that closely at the coding, and that can be problematic.

I rarely use Tiny Pic because, in the past, it has been linked to viruses. There are probably fewer than a dozen people among our readers who want to deal with posting pictures. From that small group, I have had more than one report of viruses traced to TinyPic...verified by their computer repairman. That’s enough to make me refrain from using it very much. I don’t think you have ever heard me actually recommend it, have you? In fact, we have had several discussions about its value vs the risks. Use TinyPic if you like, but be careful and be on guard. Most of the time it’s probably fine. I left it on the page because these days most people who are technically savvy enough to get through those steps are technically savvy enough to recognize virus bait. As admin, I cannot change TinyPic, but I can turn it completely off so that it is not available at all. Do you think I should do that?

Second...FHS Reminiscing did NOT move from PhotoBucket; I don’t understand what you meant by that. From the beginning Photobucket was one of several photo hosting sites that anyone could establish a free account with. As far as I know, there was never any kind of “default” PB option connected with FHS Reminiscing. Besides being a pretty good hosting and editing site to store photos, PB also allowed easy linking of those photos to a message board like ours. Several of our readers, anyone that wanted to, established an account and enjoyed the services. We often chatted about the features and how to use it. However, about two years ago, without warning, PB changed their policy. They cancelled those free accounts. Not only did they unlink the photos which had previously been posted, but they started charging nearly 300.00 per year (per user) for that same type of account. I would be willing to pay that fee if it could be a default option for FHS Rem....but that’s not the case.....EVERYONE who wants to post pictures would have to establish individual PB accounts and pay a fee. PB received a lot of bad press about this unexpected change; I read that there might be legal action since they basically were holding photos hostage if you didn’t set up a paid account. So they did have to make some adjustments. I just checked, and PB now offers a similar type of account for 11.00 per month...quite a bit less than the original 300.00 per year that they required two years ago. But, again, that would not be for the use of FHS Reminiscing Site as a whole....that’s 11.00 per month per user. Any individual can make that choice to subscribe to PB right now and enjoy all the features available before. Use it if you like. But It has nothing to do with FHS Reminiscing other than making it less complicated to post photos.

Third....did you state that PhotoBucket was the default account on our page before TinyPic? I don’t remember it that way. It’s true that PB owned TinyPic at one point in time...perhaps still does...but anytime photos were posted on FHS via PhotoBucket.....it was a feature on that particular poster’s individual PB account....not a feature of FHS Rem or any Boardhost Message Boards that I know of.

Does this shed any light on your thinking? I’m not sure I completely understood all the points you brought up...especially your first paragraph...as in “I can explain why I know that”... Know WHAT?

However, my opinion is that to ‘turn off’ or ‘leave on’ should be decided (by you, of course) after a more comprehensive, detailed “How to Post Pictures” plan is well thought-out. One addition to my comments! I have and will continue to strongly supported FHS Baseball and would encourage all former players and FHS grad's to do the same! The field and facilities are awesome and Coach Brown has a passion for the game that is evident.
