Cuz and I say Robert Hayes yesterday at the car show in the Trustmark Park parking lot. He still looks as young as ever. It’s always good to run up on a member of the Bearcat Nation. Man it seems July 16 is slow about getting here. I look forward to seeing y’all

Shhhhhh….Steve are you sure you saw “our” Robert Hays? I’m thinking Larry R has not seen your post yet!! He might have something nice to say, too. Truthfully, Bearcat Nation would never be the same without our Robert!
Speaking of Jul 16…remember the 1st N n C??

Steve, we are looking forward to seeing you, too, this coming Jul 16! I’ll never forget that first time seeing you again after 50 years! It happened in 2011 after the spontaneous planning of the original Nabs n Coke Party. Remember? We threw that party together in two weeks hoping to get Alex Craig Graham and John Townsend there before their illness took them. The idea of a Nabs and Coke Party was born when Alex started reminiscing on the phone with some of us and later on this site about the memories of Cold Cocolers and Nabs on hot summer days growing up in Forest. We could walk all over town in those days and a Coke and pack of Nabs purchased at the drug stores or gas stations was soooo good. He wanted one more visit home. One day, I simply decided we were going to try to make it happen. I called Kats Kave ( seriously wanted to have this gathering in Forest) but it was booked for the Sat we needed. Only other option was Roosevelt Park. I didn’t know if we would have 10 people or 200. When I called the Park there was only one pavilion left. I asked if it was near a bathroom. She said “yes” and I said “I’ll take it.” Turns out we had close to 100 Bearcats show up that very first time. Steve, if I remember correctly, you and Scooter (maybe David G?) offered to arrange a small plane with a pilot friend to fly Alex from Memphis. (One day I’ll tell you what Alex told me about that…..but it’s a bit too colorful to post here lolol!) Moving on…I can think of so many of you that jumped right in bringing fans, a boom box to play Anchors Aweigh (Larry!) but most of all….Bearcats came bringing NABS AND COKES on one of the hottest days of the year! Just like the old days. Sadly, neither Alex nor John were well enough to make it that day. But I will tell you that it made Alex very happy that he had inspired the first Nabs and Coke Party. Who knew that we would want to repeat that event every year for a decade! But that’s what we did. (Minus COVID interruptions)
Thanks for giving the background about the Coke & Nabs get togethers. That's what I remembered as well. I am pretty sure that Alex Craig smiles down on all of us who gather each year at "his" Coke & Nabs party.
Kaye you’re correct, the first Nabs and Coke Reunion it was hot as a goat in a pepper patch takin 2 rows at a time. Stanley had made arrangements with his son in law in Grenville to go get Alex and bring him to the get together and then take him home. Stanley and myself were going to pay for the fuel and that was all it was going to cost. As Robert said last Saturday, our numbers are declining. It would be great if more of the younger classes (68 and up) would come. This is a great get together and as Robert said the other day, “ I’ll go as long as I’m able”. See y’all in Forest at THE KATZ KAVE ON JULY 16, 2022 if the good Lords willing and Dog River don’t rise.
• Trying to get this site to allow me to post a pic. If this does not work for you, this photo and many more of other Nabs Reunions are on FaceBook. Look up group page: FHS Reminiscing Photos. Glenda Session Brown has it all covered. As always, thank you Glenda for saving/organizing all our photos. • • Not all attendees are in this group photo. I remember a lot of steps and stairs to get to this location. Some preferred not to tackle the steps. Also, I don’t see many of the Bearcat spouses (bless their hearts) in this group. Enjoy. It brings back so many memories of that first time.
